Coming from a person who has closely followed Manny Pacquiao's Career since being known as "The Destroyer". As I posted before.
Here's something that is interesting to me.
When pacquiao was fighting at 130 and struggling to defeat opposition there he was coming into fight night weight roughly 144-148 pds.
Pacquiao since then has fought at 135 140 and 147 and has come in at fight night weigh again roughly 144-148 pounds.
Pacquiao has been a drastically better fightet in his last 5 bouts than his previous 51 basically happening after the age of 30. His power and many say his speed has increase tremendously.
Did Roach all of a sudden find a better way to teach and train Manny how to be better?
Something is definitely different but I can't put my finger on it.
Pacquaio
Strengths: Good head movement, good footwork, speed, power, solid chin, follows the gamplan
Weaknesses: No defense, cannot fight going backwards, can easily be frustrated
Overall: Hasn't faced a dynamic opponent since JMM. He has progressed to become a complete fighter IMO. We don't know how he will perform against Floyd, which is an elite dynamic fighter. He'll have to do more than throw alot punches, Floyd is not a heavy bag that stands in front of you. There is a possibility that if they do meet, Roach's gameplan won't help. We will then see if Manny has the ability to adjust.
pac use to be one dimensional, had a lot of bad habits such as lunging in with the straight left. His right hand was a joke.
Now his right is as good as his left, plus yeah like the guy said before, he don't need cut down in weight as nearly as much as he use to.
I remember after his first and only fight at 135 vs Diaz, he told Roach that he aint ever starving himself again to make 135, it was a struggle to make weight.
That goes to show how tough it may have been for Pac to cut down for his fights at 126-130 range. You only have to see the weigh in pics at 126-130 fights he had, his body was completely dry, face was gaunt as hell. People say his head has got bigger, no shit.
you have to factor in speed too.
why was it that floyd was more challenged at 130-135 than he has been at 140-154?
these cats in the higher weight class can't handle the little guy's speed.
if you're skilled enough and good enough , the bigger guys are actually easier.
they're too slow.
You have your point on the speed factor. Maybe he just appears faster. I happen to think he is ACTUALLY faster though.
Also I think Floyd's best days where at 130-135. I think Floyd is way more vaunerable at 147 and higher.
I give Manny and Roach all the credit in the word when it comes down to un marked potentiality and what not. I also take in the factor of cutting weight.
I just think its a little nieve to just give all the credence to those factors alone.
Forgive my Dragonball Z methaphor but Manny went from a Krillin or Yamcha to a Super Saiyan 3 Goku in a matter of Marquez 2 to Diaz to De La Hoya to Hatton to Cotto and Now Clottey.
like I said, I'm not a bandwagon Pacquiao fan, I've seen all his fights in America and own a Copy of the "No Fear" VHS tape that was made for fans in the philipinnes.
Don't be naive yourself bro....look at his freakin' opponents. You're giving the bum too much credit. What do David Diaz, Oscar, Hatton, Clottey, Cotto have in common!?!? NO MOVMENT....they're in your face and coming forward at all times....what do you have? a certified punching bag...that's why Pacquiao became a combination machine as of late....he now finally is able to use all of his power with bigger guys rather than guys who move on him like Marquez in smaller weights....think Mcfly!!!!!!!
ever think he was draining himself at 130?
plus your view on his first 51 fights is wrong.
ever since landing with roach , pacquiao has struggled only 4 times.
agapito sanchez , erik morales and 2 fights juan manuel marquez.
agapito was hitting pacquiao in the nuts while doing his evan fields imitation.
morales is just a superior fighter to these guys he's been fighting now.
marquez is just pacquiao's ken norton.
"Struggling 4 times" in the amount of fights he has been with Roach is considerable seeing that he has only last a total of 2 rounds in his last 5 fights brother.

Well i think Pac is fighting nearer his natural weight now and isnt starving himself. Although 147 is of course bigger than he naturally would be, he has to eat an incredible amount to stay there.
Plus he has been with Roach for longer now, so the longer he has been with Roach the better the understanding will be. Of course other factors as well.
But Pac always had latent potential, and Roach is one hell ofa trainer.Roach said its easy because he has the best fighter in the world.
