I think that Manny Pacquiao`s performance against Joshua Clottey bears all the hallmarks of the remarkable champion he is. He did what he had to do to win the fight, while giving Clottey enough chances to prove that he was a worthy contestant. Once again he proved himself to be a true champion and a real gentleman. But has being a nice guy cost Pacquiao something irreplaceable?
I may be wrong, but I believe that Pacquiao suffered an injury to his right eye in his fight against Clottey. When Pacquiao TKO`d Cotto he seemed happy and relaxed in the post-fight interviews. But we now know that one of his eardrums was severely damaged in that fight.
Think about it! He was completely deaf in one ear, it must have hurt like hell and bothered him severely, yet there he was smiling for the cameras, and chatting away as usual. I found him to be a lot more strained and troubled at the end of his most recent fight. I was surprised that he did not hug Clottey right at the final bell, as he had done at the start of the twelfth. It was then that I noticed that his right eye looked injured. I don`t mean the mouse he sported under his eye, I mean the inside of the eye itself. There seems to be a kind of a membrane, similar to a cataract, blocking his view.
Displaced retina? Let`s hope not. I would hate to think that Manny`s generosity had cost him something irreplaceable. Manny allowed Joshua a few shots perhaps, as he often says, because he “wanted to put on the best show for the fans”.
I hope I am wrong, but don`t be surprised to learn that Manny has to undergo eye surgery.
I disagree TS. I think Pac just wasnt as excited because it was just a weird fight like that, not like his previous others. He stopped all the other guys and all the other guys came to fight. All those fights were mad exciting and he got a KO at the end while this fight was a little boring at times and very repititve round after round. It was just like a routine fight where the expected happened, he knew he had to answer the same old Mayweather questions again, and so on.
As for the ear drum stuff, him fighting on isnt too impressive. I mean guys like Paulie continued fighting monster punchers like Cotto with a broken jaw. The adrenline will make the pain much less at the time. Other guys fight with broken hands and so on. Thats why I dont think he has a detached retina. He's just one of those guys who get badly bruised up when he fights. His eye I think also was like that after the Cotto fight.
Also, I think Polo had to retire because of a detached retina also
I know one thing, Pac sure shows damage on his face easy. Just those few punches he took from Clottey left him like that, Cotto didn't touch him after the 6th or 7th and he was messed up bad.
i have had a detached retina... i think its from a blow to the side the back of the head instead of directly in front of the eye.
really bro? you have detached retina?
I could only remember Sugar Ray Leonard's career being cut short because of this after his fight with the Hitman Hearns...
