Cotto has earned everything he has and all the credit a man and a fighter should get. Cotto is a gentleman and a warrior in the ring. He was smart to realize what his chance were in the Marg fight , and tought about his career and his family. Im tired of the downers , trying to feel good by discrediting a man of such class.
He always respected everyone , the media the fighters , the trainers , all he did was train and fight. All he has done is fight for him and his family. Never talked shit , never had excuses.
His career , even with losses is one to admire. He reahed the top , and more. he wanted more. He wanted to be the best and to prove it. He fogutht the best opposition possible. Judah , Quintana , Mosley , Margarito , Clottey , Pacquiao , while being at the top.
On his way to the top he fought more than decent opposition , taking on fighters like bailey , Malignaggi , Sosa , Branco , Torres and did what any man with heart and desired to be a champ was supose to do, dispose of those opponents.
He has done everything a boxer dreams of , and all a boxer should have done.
Reach the top. Fight the best.
Miguel Angel Cotto will be a hall of famer , And is a role model to many fighters and fans.
No he doesn't. He doesn't have a high workrate, but he doesn't have that low of an output.
It's totally regardless how much of a beatdown Cotto got. Cotto was at one point in the fight. Clottey was not. Cotto was competitive, engaging, Clottey was not.
Damage does not equate to "doing better". Clottey did horrible.
You think Cotto got beat worse by Margarito than Pavlik did by Hopkins? Sure Cotto got stopped, but he was competitive.
I'd rather get stopped in a close fight than lose every round. Granted Cotto/Pac wasn't close, but the first half of the fight was HIGHLY competitive...more than you can say about the Clottey fight which at no point was remotely competitive.
Couldn't have said it better! That was a pathetic showing by Clottey
how was it pathetic?? just coz pac dominated clottey?
Cuz Clottey didn't try to win! Pac did everything he was supposed to do and put on a good show, Clottey didn't!
Cotto took a beating. Pacquiao rearranged his face.
Clottey simply got outworked. Clottey normally throws 30 punches a round, thats how he fights.

If he wanted to win, he would have stepped it up when he knew he already lost a decision and needed a K.O.
He didn't come to win, he came to survive 12 rounds and he sadly achieved that cowardly game plan.
Clottey doesn't have the stamina to do so, after his fights with Margarito and Cotto it's surprising people still don't get it.
What? I would LOVE to know how he was more competitive than Cotto. I mean, I don't even see how that can even be argued.
Clottey lost every round by a landslide. Because he didn't get hurt or KD'd he was more competitive? That makes zero sense, the guy threw 30 punches a round.
There were rounds where Cotto landed more punches than Clottey's average punch output per round.

Clottey did what he does in every fight, he came to win.
Pacquiao simply had too much speed and stamina for him.

So because Cotto, Hatton and De la Hoya got destroyed they deserved a pay check ?
Clottey was more competitive than all those fighters above and he was able to last the distance, he was never hurt once. Clottey deserved his pay check, he came to win, he simply didn't have the workrate/stamina to do so.

the difference is clottey would have given himself a better chance if he fought differently.
hatton could not no matter what he did.
You don't know what would have happened, and niether do I.
Had Hatton boxed, used the jab, stook and moved maybe he would have done much better. Had he not tried to steamroll Pac I think he definitely would have been better off, but I don't know what would have happened I can only I say "if" and "I think."
Just like had Clottey opened up more would he have done better? Neither of us know. Maybe he would have been caught with a punch and ended up like Hatton. So it wouldn't have been better for him. Maybe it would of and he could have won. Who knows. All we know is what he did.
Hatton fought his style and lost.
Clottey fought his style and lost.
Had they both fought differently, maybe the outcome would have been different. But they both fought the same way they always fight.
Moral of the story is...my point was just as valid as yours.
TS does a dis-service to Cotto coming out with this crap
Only guy I take issue with for his performance v Pac was ODLH, because he quit but then he had 5 guys screaming in his face telling him to quit
Clottey did his best, every time he opened up he got rained on.
:lol1: funny but true :fing02:

Hatton alteast tried, Oscar didn't hide in the guard all night, Miguel Cotto half-tried, he started getting on his Kawasaki after round 7 but we all knew his history.
Clottey didn't try and he came into the ring with a "last all 12 rounds" game plan.
JMM went 12 straight rounds twice, and actually fought back.
Exactly. I mean I don't mind him losing all 12 rounds and getting badly outworked.
Paul Williams did that to Winky, but Winky actually tried. Clottey didn't seem to give a shit at all.
Clottey is a world class fighter .....I admit that I almost wripped the plasma down off the wall last night outta anger but I calmed down and then common sense kicked in.....how can you not salute a LIMITED fighter with no real trainer that goes 12 rounds with the BEST fukkin' fighter on the planet?!?......I guess Clottey getting KTFO would've made some of yall happy huh?!?......its easy to type a post on a forum...shit, my 4yr old can do that......but to go 12 rounds with the King of the Ring is something different.....not many men can accomplish that...not many!!.....so some of yall should be honored to have seen one last night, his name is Joshua Clottey!!.....I guess Manny lied when he said Joshua was tough and his defense was very hard to crack because Clottey gets no props for making the stoppage predictons look crazy as his haircut.......I knew from the door that Josh was even coming to win or coming to be a part of the EVENT.......I don't know when he made his mind up about just being part of the EVENT.....but I knew he made the decision around the 6th or 7th round and it ANGERED me big time.....I can feel some of yall frustration but lets keep it real and call a spade a spade here my dudes.......style wise this fight was Manny's from the door.....Clottey went in with a bangers chance......I placed bets on that chance(REAL MONEY) but I can't say that what happened last night was totally unexpected......Clottey fans knew the worst thing that could happen was what happened.....not a KO or stoppage, we KNEW that wasn't happening but alot of you did and I think you cats just rantin'!!.....like I was last night(I threw everybody out the crib last night :lol1:).....its Sunday so roll a splift and think....let common sense kick in......and to you dudes who said Clottey was gonna get stopped....WELCOME TO REALITY!!....sorry for the long ass post to!!
Come on man....that is straight bullshit.
Going the full 12 fighting like that....there is nothing impressive about that. Nothing. He went into that ring with his goal being to go the distance and he sat in a shell throwing 25 punches a round......he deserves ZERO credit for anything.
The guy did a disservice to himself, the fans, and more importantly, the sport.
hatton earned his money. Hatton clearly went in there looking for a knockout but it was just proved he didnt belong in that fight.
Clottey should retire though, i refuse to watch another one of his fights.
