I've noticed something interesting as of late. Is it me or are southpaw boxers dominating the boxing game right now? Andre Ward and Dirrell are natural Southpaws, Paul Williams a natural Southpaw, retired Joe Calzaghe a southpaw, Devon Alexander and Juan Urango are both southpaws, Manny Paquiao a southpaw. Although Cotto fights in a conventional stance he to is a southpaw as he writes with his left handed. Kelly Pavlik writes with his left handed but always fights in a conventional stance like Cotto but both have wicked power in both hands. What has happened to right handed fighters handling business. The left hand caused Mayweather problems in both his fights with Judah and Demarcus Corley if anyone remembers but he was able to adapt and overcome. Jones fell victim to Tarver and Calzaghe. Erik Morales and Barrerra both were caught cold by Pacquiao's left hand, and even Shane Mosley was beaten easily by Winky Wright's southpaw stance eventhough he's a right handed fighter similar to Chad Dawson. :killyou:
I've noticed the southpaw takeover for a few years now.....I'm a southpaw myself so I kinda favor MOST southpaws.....I enjoy the work Manny does in there as well as Chad Dawson, who's a natural righty but he converted himself to a nice slick southpaw.....but this Alexander kid is something special in the making....I can see it and feel it with this kid.
Damn you felt wrong bro

Fighting southpaws are a pain in the butt, even for them. Most fighters would rather not(if they have a choice).
B-Hopkins was good at fighting them, he gave credit to sparring with John David Jackson, whom he also later knocked out. But even being good didn't always work, his first fight with Robert Allen, none of the usual things worked. He did however make adjustments and beat him twice in return matches. It was after he beat Carl Daniels, Bernard made it known he ws done fighting soutthpaws. Never the less, even past his prime he was stuck fighting Tarver, Wright and Calzaghe. Ya just can't win!
Trivia, When Roy Jones Jr. split with his dad as a trainer, it was over a dispute on how to fight southpaws. Ironic even though Jones beat an amazing amount of southpaws in his career, his first four losses were all to southpaws.
And there is even one lb4lb fighter now that has gotten away without having to face them very much. Do you blame him?
