People just aren't intrigued by the division, not because of the klitz but because of their competition. Ever heard of Fedor Emilienenko? He is a God to many Americans and the only threat to his status as g.o.a.t is Anderson Silva. Although Silva has 4 losses the X factor puts him in a league only Fedora resides in. If his era was looked upon as a strong HW era then he'd more often than not be ranked as the #1 HW all-time, not Ali. Marciano's often gets knocked for his opposition, which reflects on how people think of that HW era of the 50s. The contenders he didn't face (Baker, Valdez, Henry, etc...), I don't hear anyone talking about how great they were either. The 80s HWs were labeled "The Lost Generation of Heavyweights". Holmes frequently gets knocked for his opposition as a champion. Tyson often does too. People loved Tyson because of his style and charisma, but no one talks about the 80s being some great era of the HWs. In fact, it's infamous for all the underachievers it spawned. Hell, in the early to mid 90s, while a lot of people loved the HW division, there were still others who said it was weak and used the fact that 40+ year olds like Holmes and Foreman being major players as evidence at how weak it was. Now I often hear people say it was the 2nd best HW era ever other than the early to mid 70s.

My take is that boxing has taken a nosedive in popularity in the States. It's been discussed before, but not having it on free TV like it used to be in the past, plus the fact that PPV often disappoint for the $50 price tag has discouraged potential fans to care about boxing. Then you add boxing shooting itself in the foot for all its stupid, f*cked-up behavior that includes atrocious scoring amongst its biggest cancers. It all turns people off. Boxing relies a lot on the casual fan and that person typically enjoys blood and guts. You need certain type of fighters (warriors and gladiators with an exciting style) to get non-hardcore fans excited. Or you need drama. Boxers like FMJ may be criticized for their fighting style but they can still create interest with their big mouths. The USA, for better or worse, eats that shit up. The K Bros. heavily accented English and personalities don't really fit that mold. Plus, in boxing, you're always gonna have the large portion of the audience gravitate towards "their own kind." It's stupid, but white Americans would rather support Americans that Eastern Europeans, for the most part. (Of course, there's plenty of hardcore fans that just love boxing period, but they watch streams and don't buy PPVs). I don't watch UFC or mixed martial arts or whatever it's called, but I've heard that all the fighters fight each other. If that's true, boxing needs to get back to that. May vs. Pac not happening is another reason for people who don't have a clue about boxing to shit on boxing. And in a way, they're right. It's lame when the biggest fights don't happen for whatever reasons. Oh, and another thing, shady promoters. A lot of boxers, especially heavyweights it seems, end up broke. Why would young kids want to go into a painful sport where they could potentially die just for some old **** to steal all their money? Not a lot of motivation there.
