Yeah I know in the past he worked with Hearns, Ali, Leonard, and thats great but I know that those guys were damn near self made legends. Ali and Leonard were popular right out of the Olympics and Hearns won respect with the way he was knocking muths out so he had a lot of buzz already.
But lately, and I mean the pass 20 years, Arum has really fallen off with Black fighters. Here he has Pac vs Clottey but I'll be damned if there has been any promotional material, marketing etc...directed at Black audiences. I mean Clottey is from Ghana and I'm sure they are excited in his homeland but sheesh, he can be promoted in African American markets as well. What harm is in that, is Arum just really that cheap? This will sound racist but I actually predict a majority white crowd in Dallas. Not majority asian or Filipino, or African, but White. That, if you ask me, is the target audience of this fight. Conservative whites at that.
Even with Floyd, Arum truly failed to see his potential, Floyd stated that he should be making De La Hoya kind of money and Arum laughed at him, so Floyd goes solo and does just that. This more so than anything else showed me that Black fighters need to stay away from Bob Arum.
Clottey may not realize it cause he's making some money with Top Rank, but he is being used in this fight with Pac, and I know he could be making more and having a more fulfilling career with another promoter. He is going into the biggest fight of his life as an unknown, that aint right. He should of been built up properly for this moment.
I feel promoters have gotten lazy and some just don't know how to properly promote. Promoters and fighter need to take a page out of the old playbook and build up very good to great local fan bases. Then branch out to surrounding areas. Then try to get a market for whatever area you in. A person like Chad Dawson should have locked up the whole east coast by now. But promoters only trying to get their fighters fights in vegas before they are even worthy of that then wonder why they fail.
Like Arum right now is promoting the Peterson Bros. why not promote a very good local card here in DC for those two. Build up they local fan base so the people would be willing to travel to see them fight in Atlantic City or New York on the card Arum does every for the PR parade.
IMO promoters have gotten lazy because of that HBO and showtime money. Those channels run commericals and pre-fight stuff for months and weeks and that is all promoters now a days feel needs to be done. Which is bullshit
yep, that makes perfect sense. why should clottey care about future paydays??
he has absolutely nothing to gain from putting on a good showing or actually beating manny.
a fighter can take a dive and not look like hes taking one. trust me i know the biz and could name 5 fights right now that were dives and you wouldnt believe it. it happens, just yall aint bright enough to see it for what it is. boxing is fixed man and i love every second of it when im laughing my ass off at the bank.
Clottey is going to take a dive. hes only making 1 million and lives like a bum. you see his crib? man is desperate and will prob put everything he owns on the Under which is +155.

Most were at work then as there was no holiday and it's only right marquez should get big money on that fight as he was made to come up to an un-natural weight and then get cheated.
So they all work at the same time at night. Yeah... OK
I agree.
Look at the Peterson brothers. I heard that the D.C. fight scene is ready to explode and it makes sense seeing how many people attended the May-Mosley PC.
Fernando Guerrero is from nearby and has sold 6000 tickets twice with less than 15 fights, he's not even American.
Arum seems too lazy to promote black fighters. He thinks they'll get popular by putting them on ppv undercards until they're ready for a title. That works for Mexicans and Ricans not for blacks.
African Americans have so many sports stars to choose from with Tiger Woods, Lebron, Adrian Peterson etc. That might be part of the reason why the black community might not support boxing as much anymore. Their loyalties lie in other sports.
People tend to support fighters of their ethnicity. Hispanics probably succeed more in boxing than other sports they participate in. So they support their boxers really well. Boxing was dead in the Philippines before Pacquiao resurrected it. People support sports and stars their people are good at.
Arum must know this.
Mayweather is American but he can't wave a flag and have an instant ethnic following like other hispanic fighters. But Mayweather can hype a fight well by talking a lot of shit and being a good villian.
Arum promoted espn Top Rank boxing for 15 years and there were all groups of fighters he handled. For years during and before that he handled many fighters of all races and nationalities.
Who promotes any fighter great now?
Pac became known through he ko's and fighting big names and beating them up like never before.
Floyd because he trash talks and has a lot of skills.
These guys made themselves known IMO. Arum has never really promoted that great to me. He's understated and doesn;t spend millions like GBP
Oscar had 2 audiences. Men, women and american and hispanic.
Where were they in Marquez previous fights? And what fight did Marquez get paid the most money?

Kendall Holt, TR fighter (ending contract sooned), got knocked out and one of the Top Rank promoters goes out saying "that performance was disgraceful, i can think 20 140lbers in my head that can beat that guy"
Also, I recall a Josh Clottey interview where the questioner asked him what he thought about all of the poor decisions that have been made in Texas. He said he had no knowledge of it, but if he fell victim to it he would think about leaving Top Rank.
Where were they in Marquez previous fights? And what fight did Marquez get paid the most money?
What he said basically. And I'm sure they will be plenty of excuses when May-Mosley outsells Pac-Clottey by a conciderable margin.
lmfao, the arena was throwing shit at floyd and telling him "fuk you" after the fight... that place was packed with marquez fans, dont give me that bullshit, everyone knows marquez was the draw... mexicans are ALWAYS the fuken draw.
Where were they in Marquez previous fights? And what fight did Marquez get paid the most money?
It seems to me that the black community doesn't rabidly support boxing like it used to. Why promote to them if they aren't going to come out in big numbers to support the shows?
Compare that to the Mexican community who almost always can be counted on to show up when one of their own fights.
anthony's coming off a 2009 that was marred by a knee injury. even as inactive as he is, he's still rated top 4 in 3 organizations at LW. if he wins his bout on friday, he will be in line to fight the winner of soto/diaz, who are fighting for the interim WBC belt (valero = champ in recess).
he's also already got a date lined up on the cotto/foreman undercard.
solid maneuvering by arum, but again, it aint all on arum to market peterson.
now what else is arum supposed to do?
gOOD POINT, iM NOT HERE TO BASH ARUM, I jus think its kinda trash that Floyd and Shane are really all that we have left that the general public recognize, its fukked up to know that we get the least amount of love in this sport
It bs the way most black fighters get labled as "safety first" or "boring" beeing black myself it makes me mad to think that a day may come when we dont get recognized for skills, and for the record, the peterson bros. were to of the hottest prospects before signing with arum, true Lamont got a title shot, but how long has it been since Anthony fought????
