This is how brave Roy Jones was....
Hiding behind his HBO contract- which basically allowed him to run rampant in picking up millions of dollars at a time- Jones would fight one undeserving mandatory stiff after another.
But when Tarver had elevated himself to the IBF mandatory position in 2000, he had his promoter at the time Murad Muhammad write a letter questioning his attributes as the number one contender. Eventually, the IBF- which has had an incestuous relationship with Muhammad- acquiesced and forced Tarver into a box-off with Harding for the right to face Jones. Harding would beat Tarver in June of 2000( a loss though, that would be avenged a few years later) and Jones was free from having to face Tarver, until he agreed to face him this past Saturday.
Pitty Roy never saw fit to question the credentials of some of the other stiffs he fought Lol.
Edited.
A P4P fighter ever been run that close and walked away though? you have to think that Roy had barely been touched before aside from a flash KD against Del Valle.
Ray Leonard.
I agree, I was very impressed the way he dugged down to win the last two rounds against Tarver. To me that gave him the victory. He need it to win those two rounds to win the fight. And, he did and then he gave an immediate rematch when he didn't have to... He gets credit from me for that...
But, that is also why I don't buy the weight drained excuse in him getting KO by Tarver in the rematch. He was good enough in the first fight to win the fight and he had enough in the first fight to win the last two rounds... But, in the rematch he was drained? I just don't buy that. If that was the case he would of gotten KO'd in the first fight as well.
no he was drained in the first fight. rematch he jsut got caught.
Another excellent lefty.
Yeah Michael was special but he seemed to lose his legs when he went up to smw, I got around to watching his fight with John Scully the other day. He just couldnt leave the streets behind either.

I suspect he wasn't lying. Harding was a pretty tough dude. Was also a big-time drug dealer - and I'm not talking small potatoes on the corner - who couldn't leave the streets alone. Also spent most of his camps losing weight instead of training. The lifestyle eventually caught up to him.
Damn I didnt know that the reminds me a bit of my boy Michael Nunn he was given 24 years
i said policemen and garbagemen.
frazier was a mailman.
kelly might be a construction worker but he was like 30-0.
Richard Frazier was a moonlighting cop but it was a funny fight thats for sure

good for little roy....
lol:rofl:
The best part of that fight for me was when Harding says to his coach that his bicep hurts with a smile on his face, he really looked like he was in pain:rofl:

roy must have bribed ring magazine.
all the policemen and garbage collectors he fought all were top 5 and top 10 in the division.
Yes, he must've. Hard to believe he fought nobody and managed to fool people for 15 years.

Including Richard "the monster" Frazier and Glen "the terrible" Kelly?
Thank God I had illegal cable back then - that was a terrible fight to watch. But Harding gave Jones hell. He really was an excellent fighter but just never took care of himself outside of the ring and eventually he paid for it (against Tarver the second time).

A Oscar winning performance better than:
1: Bernard Hopkins and the phantom low blow
2: Oscar Delahoyas dive
3: Bruce Sheldon and the wind from Tysons punch
Eric 'sore bicep' Harding, great stuff.

You missed it? A Toney interview was posted up here a couple of months back talking about a fight with him and Tarver.
Sadly, I'd pick Tarver to beat him at this stage. wait...who am I kidding? They're both done.
who's eric harding?
who has he ever beat?
he's a tomato can just like everyone roy fought.
who cares if harding was always rated and ranked above tarver?
So true, man. So true.
Ugh. Are you serious? He should stick to announcing Showtime fights.
