Boxing isn't dead, its just not as prominent as it once was... It'll make a comeback at some point.... But i remember when the HW champ was celebrated and you actually knew the names of all the beltholders. (there were way less of them to remember back then though)
how can boxing be dead when we have 1000 people show up just for a press conference and mayweather, mosley, and pacquiao have all been interviewed on espn numerous times
Everytime some MMA dude tells me that I tell them that I tell them they're caught up in hype and boxing has been around for centuries and will be around long after we're gone.
so why do small time fighters like juan diaz and paulie malignaggi put up sell out crowds in chicago where neither of those two are even known?
OK, i don't believe boxing is dying, and i don't believe mma and boxing are related in any other way other than that they are both combat sports, so i'm not going to use one as a way to judge the other, but your argument here does bother me, because boxing venues have gotten smaller.
How big are these sell out chicago?
When i was in 3rd grade we had a recital at our little theatre, it held about 100 people, it was sold out, does that mean my third grade class was better musicians than any band that only sold 50,000 seats in a 65,000 seat stadium?
phillipino fans have been into boxing even BEFORE pac, mind you.
yes...but there are plenty who watch just becase of MP.....or only watch MP.......so the more of those we can convert to mainstream fans the better......
don't believe the hype...boxing is on the rise......have some great fighters coming up and great matches:
May v Mosley
Dawson v Pascal
Super 6 (Lucian Bute lies in wait for a potential fight with the winner) ----> Bute also draws big crowds in Canada.
Abraham and Klitschko's = big crowds in Germany
Froch, Khan, Haye and the other UK fighters
Kessler can draw 50K in Denmark
Martinez v Pavlik
Green and Mundine draw crowds in their respective home cities here in Australia......
JMM, Bradley, Malignaggi, Lamont Peterson, Hopkins, Adamek, Chris John, Berto, Urango, Katsidis, Guzman, Darchinyan, Funeka Gamboa, Valero, Donaire + other phillipino pugilists, Jermain Taylor may return........the list goes on
boxing is in good shape.....and alot of the phillipino fans who follow MP will continue to watch + support boxing after he retires....
All we really need is an explosive and skilled American to take the HW scene by storm and boxing will well and truly be revived.............
A great Chinese boxer ( born in China) may help aswell.....imagine a Bruce Lee type with a 1 billion strong fan base....................

If and that's a big IF boxing starts to die, it'll be good IMO, boxers would get paid less n there be less DIVA type fighters callin the shots, boxers won't be able to duck other fighters as much because they'd need the fights, I think it might do some good...either way we all got our own lives outside of boxing don't we? Who gives a fuk?!
