Another thing that Richard Schaefer has been saying is that the Mayweather-Mosley fight will do 3 million buys. I'm not hating on dude, I'm not hating on the fight, but 3 million buys is A LOT of buys. There's a reason why it has never been done before. I mean only 1 fight has ever done 2 million buys.
He said the advertisements for this fight are bigger than any fight Golden Boy has ever done before, etc. I definitely see 2 million buys, but I have a hard time believing this fight will do 3 million buys. But if it does and Pacquiao doesn't even break 1 million with Clottey then the media needs to stop with the Pacquiao is the biggest star in the sport nonsense. Just my two cents.
That's the type of ultra simplistic thinking that got boxing to become a niche sport.
Let's be real...at this moment in time there isn't a big time heavyweight PPV star nor is there a big time Latino PPV star. Right now if a fight is going to do 1 million buys it has to involve either Mayweather or Pacquiao. If neither of those guys are in the fight it won't do a million buys. Neither of them are heavyweights, neither of them are Latino and one of them is a Black American. So, I'd say your criteria for judging a PPV's success is off. That said, I think 3 million is really high.
Then another thing to consider is that four of the greatest PPV stars of all time are black fighters; Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Ray Leonard and Floyd Mayweather.
Bob Arum and Larry Merchant believe that Black fighters can't become stars anymore. Dan Rafael believes whatever Arum and Merchant tell him to believe and that's one of the reasons he got booed so hard yesterday. But it doesn't matter how long these stupid writers keep making up reasons to deny Mayweather his props, Lil' Floyd has a mainstream following. If anyone could get to 3 million without fighting Pacquiao it'd be him against Mosley. I'm just not convinced they will get there. But I do have a lot of faith in Richard Schaefer's ability to promote a big event.
I have to agree Dan Rafael is Bob puppet...his blogs are so bias now a days that I don’t read them if he's talking abt May or Pac cuz itz always bias
It'll take a lot more of those WWE style press conferences and one hell of a 24/7 series to do even half that.
:haha:
half that wud be 1.5...PBF did 1.02 vs JMM
I like the promotions they are doing for this fight. I think boxing has the potential to tap into number that dwarf 1 mil buys, and the promotions being used are targeting that very well.
This could be a great night for boxing.
If you Floyd and Ellerbe target the gay community maybe..
3million hehehe heeeee funny as shit....SSM and Floyd hehehehehehahahah lol :stupid:
rofl!!!!!!!!!!!!
The theaters are separate from the PPV buy rate. I believe they're calculated within the closed circuit revenues, which tend not to have much effect on the PPV numbers. Closed circuit revenues for big fights are usually a fraction of the total gate.
I read somewhere that the JMM vs Floyd Theaters shows made up for only 5% of the sales, but this fight will be in 400 theaters as opposed to the 150.
PPV obviously is going to be the bigger pie, but adding the extra theaters "might" push the percentage of sales up more.
I'd rather party at the crib with the crew. Bring alcohol, pitch in for the PPV, food will be provided, prostitutes (LOL not really).
Dude, I'm pretty sure Mayweather-Judah did better than either Hopkins-Taylor fight, but the truth is this; between 2000 and 2006 if the PPV didn't have DLH or Tyson in it it wasn't selling more than maybe 350,000 or 400,000 PPVs.
Now, if the PPV doesn't have either Mayweather or Pacquiao in it; it probably shouldn't be on PPV. But it's funny to me that you're making such a big deal out of non-heavyweight PPV fights involving two black American fighters. Between 2003 and 2006 they were seven or eight that did numbers in that 300k-400k range. You had the three fights between Roy Jones and Antonio Tarver, the two Hopkins-Taylor fight, Mayweather-Judah, Hopkins-Tarver and I believe Hopkins-Wright did numbers in that range, but I may be wrong on that last one.
Point is, you had plenty of non heavyweight PPV fights involving two Blacks that did good business. Yet, you're on here insisting that there isn't a fan base for Black fighters.
no, mayweather/judah (~<400,000) did not do as well as hopkins/taylor II. it did better than the 1st hop/jt fight, but not the 2nd.
you still didnt refute any of the examples that i posed in my previous post.
why wasnt SSM a draw? where are tim bradley, chad dawson and paul williams' fan bases? how come floyd cant sell out arenas in his own transplanted home town?
fights b/t two non heavy black americans can have pull, but not enough to put it anywhere near 3mill. as boxing becomes more and more of a niche sport, ethnicity plays a huge role in developing fan bases and generating buys. the latino community is a huge portion of the boxing viewing audience, if they dont have a horse in the race or for whatever reason dont have as much interest in either main event participant, then the buy rate cannot be maximized.

he is just being ignorant and/or racist dude
how are buys calculated from the theaters though? thats probably where i'll watch it as well.

heavweights
highest grossing non-heavy fight b/t 2 black americans in recent yrs was taylor/hopkins 2 with a little over 400,000 buys.

why not watch it at home with all the coupons they have? i'll buy a 75 dollar drill if I can get the fight for free... :hail:
Pacquiao s last fight 1.5 millions
Floyd s last fight 1.0 millions
and Mosley s last fight is what 300 K
CALCULATOR.COM!
manny's last fight did 1.25, and that was with cotto. mayweather did 1 with JMM.
now way in hell does manny-clottey do 1.5, and no way in hell will manny-clottey do more than mayweather-mosley.
you're spamming the site now.
One thing I am 100% sure that PACQUIAO CLOTTEY will sell more then 1.5 millions.
Floyd could sold more then 1 million with dance partner JMM,and JMM had all country behind him to buy PPV.
Floyd said that Mosley is not PPV attraction and that JMM is bigger attraction the MOSLEY.
if you had more points I would bet you pac and clottey dont do 1 mil
Its going to be in threatres as well, and that could effect the ppv numbers
i assumed that, but they must have some way of counting those numbers. i thought that would hurt mayweather-marquez, but it did a million still, surprisingly.
Yea but PACQUIAO knocked the shit out of COTTO and he will sell cuz of that more PPV s.
PACQUIAO is way bigger PPV attraction then FLOYD&MOSLEY combined.
come on bro. :nonono:

Manny isn't as big a PPV attraction as Floyd
Let alone combined with Mosley
