Please stop. He was throwing a left hook to the body and got dropped by a punch he didnt see. He wasnt hurt. Flash KD.
Okay. I'll respect you're opinion on that.
Honestly, honestly, you don't think Cotto could have hurt Hatton at 140? And if he does, you don't think Cotto doesn't have the style or instinct to finish the job , keeping in mind his KO % at JW?
Getting walk through by Cotto does not make Hatton a scrub... Nobody that I have read so far is calling Hatton a scrub but he is not beating Cotto... I give Hatton a 50-50 chance against the Malignaggi version of Cotto but not the Cotto from 2004...
Thats fair. Wish they would've fought.
Let me guess, you went to boxrec and saw 1st KD and decided it was a flash knockdown. You didn't see the fight, did you? It was actually a good counter that hurt him and made him stumble back.
Styles make fights and Cotto had the style, chin and stamina to KO a mad rushing, lunging Ricky Hatton.

Naw I know Kosta was old and Hatton was kind of dirty in that fight. But that very hugging grappling wild shit is what made him Hatton. He had good power, good speed, great body puncher, good chin, stamina for days, relentless pressure, cuting off the ring...etc..
Hatton wasnt a scrub at 140 like people making him out to be on here. Cotto is not walking through dude.

A First round Flash KD?? Cmon man.

I never said he was a scrub either..I like the kid..I just know he'd get taken out by Cotto..no question..although he'd have his moments..but than again..so did Diaz against Marquez..and we saw where that went by the 9th...that's the same shit that would've happened to Hatton..decent moments early..in pain and getting KO'd late..
this dude crazy eyekonic is this the type of sigs you wanted me to put up? lol

Lol!..Hatton will not have the same stamina to go 12 if Cotto dug in that boys body as viciously as he did about 95% of his victims at 140..
like I said..if you're making this judgment up from Hatton beating a 60yr old Kostya Tszyu...than you're getting shit twisted..because Hatton didn't really have any quality in his opposition besides an OLD Tszyu to even begin to compare him to Cotto..
The more I think about it..the more I feel bad for how hurt Hatton would have been..he would've been fighting something he's never seen before..literally!..
on the other hand people have tried to bully Cotto he was just too strong and shoved them off and punished their bodies..

I think this is a good thread and an interesting topic.
At 147, id pick Cotto no doubt. But Hatton at 140 was a different fighter. The Hatton who fought at 140 vs the Cotto who fought at 140 is a great fight, which is a 50/50 fight in my opinion. But, if pushed id go with Cotto.
And better than Hatton at JW. Remember Hatton got KD'd by light punching McGee while Cotto never went down at 140. Plus Cotto had a higher KO percentage than Ricky at 140.
Better boxing skills, solid jab, never went down at 140, better ko percentage, than Ricky Hatton at 140. Cotto by KO.
I have a feeling you only saw the Tszyu fight and this convinced you that he would the same to Cotto. The Tszyu fight was one of those rare nights when everything was going Ricky's way plus the fact that it was in the UK and the ref did a horrible job officiating that fight. You should also consider that after that fight Tszyu retired perhaps he was on his last legs or the motivation to fight on was gone.

Bailey and Torres can bang and Cotto made it. I dont think Hatton stops him with one punch. But over the course of 12 is something different.
That boy was a skeleton at 140.
And, how would Hatton last the 12 rounds? He is too easy to be hit... And, again which version of Cotto are you talking about? The one that fought Malignaggi or the one that fougth Bailey, Sosa, Ndou, Maussa, and Pinto? That version of Cotto was not drained....
He could bang the body with a good left hook and he was a good short distance puncher. BUT.... Hatton can make him uncomfortable with that mauling style and pressure. And Hatton had the stamina to do it for 12.

Cotto chin was alot better at WW.

His chin was a lot better at WW but it wasn't shit at 140... If it was gets stop by a Randall Bailey who has 1 punch KO power... Urango has awesome chin and got dropped by Bailey and was serious hurt... If Cotto chin was "shit" he gets stop by him or the other heavy hitters he fought...

i agree, people under rate hatton when he was dominating the light welterweight division. I think hatton would of beat cotto at 140, cotto doesnt like pressure fighters and im not sure cotto could bang anywhere near as hard as tszyu could. would have been a great fight.

For the record at 140 Hatton wouldve beat the shit out of Cotto. | BoxingScene Community
