and retire? Why not Winky Wright like I was talking about earlier today? They are both probably gonna be with Top Rank and Winky is a better name to have on your res than Hatton is.
Is there anything wrong with liking Cotto more than Hatton? Yes there is. Could you imagine trying to shoot darts or drink beer with Cotto and his lame personality?
This is how you respond? Lol, ok.
We're done here.
I wish no bad harm on Ricky Hatton nor on any professional fighter. I have nothing but admiration for anybody that steps in the ring. Let me clarify : If Cotto wants to go out on a dominant win over the even more (at this point) shopworn Ricky Hatton, that's ok by me.
Btw, I like Cotto way more than Hatton. Anything wrong with that?

But saying you want one guy to suffer a Meldrick Taylor like beating while the other guy comes out as clean as a whistle is showing extreme favoratism though I'll have to admit.

Have a look at the poll. The huge majority of fans know that fight is a joke. Even now.
Yeah, I think Cotto is probably done at the elite level. Yes it's wrong that the beatings he suffered were put on him by probably one and maybe two cheaters. That's the saddest part and we'll never know 100% certain one way or the other. That has to eat him up.
If he wants to take a shot at a belt @ 154 by fighting Yuri? Meh...ok...I don't see Yuri as an easy fight, but at least it's unlikely that MC suffers alot of additional damage.
If he wants to cash out by putting a beatdown on Hatton, that's ok w/me too. At this point I like and admire Cotto pretty much regardless of how he chooses to bow out. If he wants to finish up minimizing physical risk and maxing money and alphabet titles, who can blame him? He's truly sought out and fought the very best he could get throughout his career. Good on him...

The Hatton vs. Cotto at 147 thread that's going on confirms it too.

I'm not mad at Cotto's fans either if they want him to play it safe until he retires. I understand because he's been in some tough fights. I know how to be objective.

But what weight would Winky fight Cotto at? Becasue last fight he was at 160, and Cotto is only moving up to 154 now. I'm not a huge Cotto fan, I like him and he's a good, exciting fighter, but I on't know how much he has left. I think Cotto fan's just want him to make a lot of money with a Hatton fight and then retire without receiving much more damage, as Hatton wouldn't really be able to do much to him. It'd also be an exciting fight while it lasted, so good excitement for the fans as well.
A good starting point though is the Foreman fight, and if he looks good in that fight, then who knows what Cotto will do next. And also, would HBO be interested in a fight between Cotto & Hatton or Winky? Because at the moment, both are coming off KO losses to Pac, and Winky hasn't won in years and most people think they are done, so would HBO pay for it? And at least the Foreman fight is for a title.
I think Cotto won't suffer a devastating beating if he fights guys like Wright, Spinks, and Foreman like he's doing now. But I think the guy who he can't win against out of the three is Winky Wright.
Sadly, i don't see much wrong with this post and pretty much agree. Pretty much. And i am a die-hard Cotto fan. I don't even bother defending him anymore. I fear this post may be true. otherwise, i have had much joy in his past fights, and his 2 losses were...
1. To a guy who got caught trying to cheat with loaded gloves. Very controversial loss.
2. Manny is a monster..the p4p best. Manny is pretty much fighting at his 'walking around" weight now, and there was no shame in him losing to him. He did great against Clottey with one freakin' eye.
This is the only thing really that gives me much hope in him in his future bouts, against guys that are good matchups. Last i heard, Evangalista is back in his corner. Don't know if it's true. He seemed to be the only guy that Cotto would listen to.
And I'm not even sure about that. I am hoping that the case is Evangalista is the only one that could get thru Cotto's stubborn pride, and he can re-invent himself. i don't know if he can get past the ghosts that now haunt him from those 2 fights. plus Clottey did give him hell. Cotto had to fight for his life in that one. He took a lot of damage. 28 stitches....dam.
It might be true that he just has taken to much punishment and his best days are over. I can accept it. I'm not a stan, and i have posted my criticism's of Cotto in the past. I try my best not to be bias, and I'm over his losses and the controversy behind them.
But there are some people on this site that just don't like him and some that hate them. To each his own. He still has a dam good record to look back on, and he was a bull in his day. It's been a joy for me to watch him climb up to his highest undefeated record. And sad by his decline. But oh, well...I'm a boxing fan. i have had many favorites over the years.
Ali, Frazier, Tito, DLH, RJJ, Tarver, Kastya Tsui(sp), And many more.
Great post sir and I totally agree.
At least most of Cotto's fans are humble these days unlike Braddman who posted above me just now. Guys like Eyetalian were always the more objective ones. But we never get any of these threads about how Cotto would break Paul Williams' ribs or how he would give Mayweather a tough fight. All we hear about is a Hatton-Cotto fight.
First of all...inconfident...not a word kind of makes you look silly from the start
The fight is a money fight, for both guys, nothing wrong with them cashing in whilst there both on the downward slope. Its a war, but hatton would never take it in my opinion, and if he did he would be in a world of pain, and ko #3. If you were a huge cotto fan why wouldn't you want him to take it, its a big fight in terms of tv, money, recognition and another good name on the resume regardless of the circumstances, people will look back in 10 years and see hatton ko on his record and say "Hey thats a good win, hatton was a good fighter".
Bro Cotto is shot. There's nothing left to prove for him. His career is on a downfall. He fought the best and he's done now. Let him fight whoever he wants. He deserves it. Anybody who wants to see Winky beat up Cotto needs to get their head out of their ass.
You're not shot because you lose to the 2 of the best welters in the world. Cotto can still beat almost anyone at welter besides Pac, Margarito with plaster, or Mayweather. Those three would beat him any day of the week, except Margarito, he'd have to cheat to win.

I don't even like Winky, but still I don't want to see Winky with money problems after he retires and he needs to humuliate little Cotto before I see him retire. :crying: It won't hurt Cotto that bad. It's not like Winky is this devastating powerful pressure fighter.
Cotto fans need to learn to accept that Cotto is not and will not be the same fighter and that he's done...Margo's loaded gloves did too much damage...I wish he never took that fight...had that fight never happened he would have upsetted pac or he would have made the fight closer than what it was...it messed with his mentality big time...not only that but now he has skin problems since his face got shredded by those bricks margo had...It hurts me too that Cotto had to leave so early in boxing...Ortiz might be heading the same dirrection...he's showing Cotto syndrom to...but he could bounce back...I think sometimes fans have to accept when a fighter is finished...

Ali, Frazier, Tito, DLH, RJJ, Tarver, Kastya Tsui(sp), Taylor, Pacman, JMM, Barrera, and many more. Now I like AA, Ward, Bradley, and a few others i can't think of right now. I got Ward taking the tourney.
Combine that with the fact that Perro, Martinez, Cintron, Dzinziruk, Williams and a rusty Kirkland getting out of jail are all tougher fights for Cotto than Hatton is. Do you guys think he gets beat by all of the above save for Hatton?
Winky??? Seriously???
Winky hasn't won in years. It will just be more ammo for me to talk to the Stans.
Yeah, but if you don't think that even the current version of Winky should be a favorite over Cotto right now then I don't know why you even follow boxing or anybody does for that thinks Cotto can beat Winky for that matter. Winky called out Cotto along with Pavlik on B-Talk, and I'm sure that Cotto would bring him more money and it would be a more winnable fight for Winky just like Hatton is a more winnable fight than Winky is for Cotto.
