Leonard Ellerbe, advisor to Floyd Mayweather Jr., told the Los Angeles Times that Shane Mosley would be their prime target if negotiations to make a fight with Manny Pacquiao fall apart. Mayweather is looking for the biggest financial opportunities out there, and the two biggest are Pacquiao and Mosley. Bob Arum of Top Rank and Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions are going to do their best to make a deal for a Mayweather-Pacquiao bout. Mosley has to win his January 30 welterweight unification with Andre Berto to keep the Mayweather possibility alive.
"If the fight can't be made , we'll fight Shane Mosley if he can get past Berto," Ellerbe said.
Negotiations for Mayweather-Pacquiao will be tough. Mayweather wants the bulk of the money, and so does Pacquiao. Ellerbe doesn't seem to care if Pacquiao's pay-per-view with Miguel Cotto lands a higher buyrate than Mayweather's bout with Juan Manuel Marquez. He stands with Mayweather's position of Marquez bringing very little to the table in terms of pay-per-view buys.
"It's no secret the camps don't see eye to eye, but this is bigger than boxing," Ellerbe said. "We understand the magnitude of this."
"The numbers don't lie, people do," Ellerbe said. " had good numbers, God bless him, but he had a dance partner this time."
So Please enough of that shit. Get facts straight. They already said they wanted Shane.
it makes no sense to say he was forced to fight mosley. \
wouldn't he be more forced to drop the ost and fight manny since that fight is way more wanted?
it's funny he's ducking or being forced why couldn't he be forced to fight cotto or margarito?
i would say that it is safe to say that floyd was cornered into fighting shane, because with shane being available after the berto fight being cancelled it would look like floyd was ducking if he were to fight anyone else.
floyd was being forced by public demand.............. had he not taken the fight with shane being available, then you know good and well that floyd would've been lambasted even more for his match making.
so yes he was forced and like i said, forced by public demand, and if not, he would've gotten torn to shreds and really scrutinized over his resume, more so then now with people picking it apart.
bottom line, everyone knows shane wanted the fight and that it was left up to mayweather to sign, even with all his new rules of engagement..... shane jumped through every hoop and was willing to do so. so had floyd not taken the fight......... it would be a duck.
because i'm willing to bet the house that floyd would much rather fight someone else for a payday, campbell, malignaggi, M. hatton......... you have to remember that those were names being tossed out as possible opponents, all while shane was there too......... who knows what all mayweather and his team really wanted, but fight fans wouldn't stand for it had floyd not taken this fight with it being available.
no one put a gun to his head and said fight shane or else, but the public was about to turn their back on mayweather had he not taken this fight........ except floyd diehards that wouldn't care if floyd fought hatton again or ivan calderon for that matter.
dude...i dnt get this shit at all. first floyd ducks pac and then he's forced to fight manny...that whole logic is screwed. he fought a potentially tougher opponent because he ducked a guy who would have made him more money?? do u guys hear how ass backwards that is?? why cant we just enjoy the fights without all this talk about him ducking someone. hes fighting, who gives a **** why, thats his buisness. all that should matter to boxing fans is that he's climbin in the ring wit a dude that could potentially beat him.
grow the hell up. ppl on this site swear they kno what these dudes do in real life. u aint a star...shit u aint even part of a star's entourage. shut up n watch the fighters fight and tlk about their performances.
Lolz. How about Ellerbe's statement about Floyd's painkiller? :D. Do you believe that too?
I believe he was not forced to fight Shane. It is only logical that he went after Shane after the pac fight fell off. They were talking about a big name opponent prior to the Haiti incident. I was thinking then that they are offering a step aside for Berto. Oh well. It is just speculation at this point.
So they were certain that PAC-May won't be made and talked of fighing Mosley since Mosley was supposed to fight berto January. And at that time, they figured Mosley-May won't happen too soon so they have plenty of time to come up with the perfect excuse

Bumped for anyone who thinks Floyd was "forced".
2 week negotiations. That's not dragging anything no matter how you want to spin it. If you want to see "dragging negotiations" check out Paquiao-Hatton and Pacquiao-Delahoya. and also, Mayweather did NOT request the rematch clause.
You forgot Pac-Cotto. Shit took forever.
obviously we all know the contract. your comprehension is a bit off..my point is that he really dragged the whole signing thing out....oh and he also requested a remacth...look at the whole post though....can you honestly make yourself believe that pbf is clamoring for this fight?

Proff that pbf wanting a fight would be him proclaiming that he wants the fight like he did with hatton.....not discrediting mosley's career and ppv numbers...jumping in the ring in front of millions , telling the world that he wants the fight....not pussy footing when it was time to sign the deal.... quit fooling yourselves about pbf..
It took less than 2 weeks to get the contract signed. That's mainly because of the lawyers involved. In no way is that stalling. And really what difference does it make now since the fight is official? Your complaint makes no sense.
So you admit Shane is picking on a JWW?
Shane doesn't think that way, he just wants to fight the best there is whoever it may be. Floyd can be MW as long as he proclaim he is the best then Shane would love to challenge that greatness.
Shane is a warrior, not a pussy. Don't worry though, shane will not cheat floyd on the scale even if floyd gets bloated.
Burner,
How many times do I have to tell you, you are an idiot if you believe anything Floyd's camp has to say. You can keep all your fat Ellerbe quotes, there are about 1000 articles and quotes out there from them that completly refute any credibility they may have.
LOL, how much accounts does Burner have and why does he keep making new accounts..
Last I checked the contract is signed.
Mosley called Floyd a"Junior WW with no belt". Its called TRASH TALK.
