Watching that clip again is just fascinating. Both of those guys - right then - were very good fighters, damn near great. Not far off from what they would become. There's an interesting part where I think Lampley asks Clancy if Hopkins has a very good chin or does Jones not have as much power as advertised. And Clancy responds by saying that Jones hasn't been able to land too many clean punches. Even then, Bernard was excellent defensively. And he hit Jones a lot more than I saw Jones hit again for many years. Jones was obviously more seasoned and used that to his advantage through the tough latter rounds. It's also clear he's favoring his left a lot in that fight. It's kind of disappointing this didn't go down in 2002 but I think this fight, over the years, will become more and more intriguing.
that shot would have dropped most people and hopkins kept throwing
hopkins is a scaled down lightheavy and much bigger than echols it shows here...echols didn't have enough weight behind his punches to hurt a much bigger fighter...
these calzaghe left overs fighting again makes no sense.... who wants to see these old has beens fight....
Its like that ugly ass mug in your siggy and avi
no one really wants to see it but its there
Disagree. What makes this forum suck is all the repetitive Floyd/Pac threads about money, split and roids.
I think so also, but post like these also make it suck.
Considering the power behind the punch and how cleanly it landed, I'd say that Hopkins took it extremely well. Much like the right hand bomb Echols caught him with.

Why did you make a new thread about this? This is what makes the forum as messy as it is. You could have just posted this in the existing post about this or sent him a PM.

thanks I was looking for that.
eh, it was a good shot definitely made hopkins stop for a second there, not sure how "hurt" he was by it.
Hopkins said it was the hardest he ever got hit or the worst he ever got hurt

nata206...says he wants to publicly profess his love and undying excuse making for nard...
Do you think a hopkins win over Roy now is meaningful?
nope...but i guess a rematch now is better then later...although wouldve been better if they had a rematch in 2002...
