This was an entertaining fight. Aleksei is an amazing amateur, if you look at his amateur accomplishments, you'll be amazed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexei_Tichtchenko
Enjoy!
You should also keep in mind that that fight was from the 2005 World Cup. Gamboa was 24 and Tishchenko was 20/21 yrs old, still improving and maturing.
Yeah physically he's very gifted but from a fundementals standpoint you can't even really compare them, Gamboa doesn't really have any.
Unfortuniatly i don't think he is turning pro though
lol aw look at the butt hurt Cuban. Don't worry, you can keep pretending like Gamboa is untouchable......until Ukraine's Vasyl Lomachenko turns pro in 2012.
Yeah, Vasyl got some serious skills. Can't wait util he turns pro.
Despaigne-Korobov was also a kill.
it's wierd...before the soviet union collapsed they weren't dominating as they are now.
i'm pretty sure if communism in cuba breaks alot of good talents can make it to the pro's.
Yeah no doubt Cuba, like always, is loaded with talent.
Alexey is not the same fighter anymore, he is not hungry at amateurs anymore. he has taken all possible trophies from european champion to olympic champion. just look at his fights in olympiad at beijing, and you will understand what i mean. he hasn't perfomed since beijing, and what if he meets gamboa today in pro, i think gamboa will win definately, maybe by knockout.
Yeah amazing tourny. The Russia-Cuba finals has
Rigondeaux-Khalikov
Gamboa-Tishchenko
Lara-Balanov
Despaigne-Korobov
Ortiz-Romanchuk
Solis-Timurziev
The Korobov & Romanchuk fights are nuts, the scores are up in the 50's & 60's. All the Cubans except Rigo lose.
The Russia-Cuba finals and Cuba-Kazakhstan Semi's are posted in the Trading Block.

I think if Aleksei turned pro at the same time as Gamboa did, I think he would beat Gamboa. Just watching at this fight, I think Aleksei looks faster and more of a well rounded fighter, one asset being that he keeps his hands up more than Gamboa. Even now, Gamboa drops his hands way too much right in front of his opponents. It's not a good thing because he doesn't have the best chin in the world either.

Gamboa over this russian guy in 3 rounds
Gamboa over Juanma in 4 rounds...
happy??

Yep. Imagine if he fights someone with crushing power, Lopez for example, while coming in like that. He would really get dropped or knocked out.
I wonder how many times has Gamboa lost in the amateurs?
