I was just reading about some rugby player being busted for cheating by a random blood test here] and it got me thinking. I know football (soccer) and athletics are both heavily policed by anti-doping agencies, and I think I remember reading that the USADA (the organisation Mayweather proposed handle testing for the Pacquiao fight) are involved with the NFL and NBA to some extent.
So I was just wondering if anyone knows of any major sports besides boxing where they apply neither blood nor random testing.
And I'm not trying to incite a flame war, I'm genuinely curious and can't be arsed to wade through Google results.
I think it does. The more reputable the sport, the more they're gonna look to protect their image. And of course testing costs money so you gotta be able to fund it.
I see what you're saying about boxing's fractured authority but I think if one body in a position of power and influence committed to and enforced more stringent testing, it would spread like wildfire as the people at the top clambered to stay in business and protect their credentials.
Good point, just to give a long shot example, say the IBO, who boasts their integrity and fairness, can invest in such testing to provide safety in its fighters.
The organization will be the shining light in a dark sport while leading the way in equality.
But as mentioned, boxing is too messy and too greedy, and the people making money off it wants no part of change.
the boxing orgs will not implement it.
it costs money.
the state athletic commissions might but it'll take a while before everyone does it.
though probably nysac , csac , tsac and nsac is all that's really needed.
The cost is clearly why it has not been implemented up until this point but if enough of a fuss is kicked up it becomes more of an investment than money down the toilet for those guys in charge.
testing has nothing to do with being a major sport or minor sport.

Performance enhancers. I think the excuse/explanation was that it was to recover faster from injury.
I think he said recreational no?
At least that's how I remmeber reading about it.
mma , kickboxing , muay thai , etc. to my knowledge in the u.s. would have the same kind of tests as boxing.
like boxing those sports are handled by state commissions.
people need to realize incorporating that kind of thing will be difficult.
boxing has no ONE governing body.
it's not like the nfl , nba or mlb.
It might be difficult to enforce universally but I think it'd be achievable at the top level/in the major locations.
If a 3rd party anti-doping organisation had the backing they could do a lot of damage, so to speak.
They test for all kind of drugs now in tennis, someone like Nadal doesnt like the privacy part but they have no choice.
I mean what did Agassi admit to? He was the meth head right?
Recreational drugs or performance enhancers?

I dunno man. Obviously I'm biased but I look at boxing as a major sport. It's more deeply ingrained in pop culture than just about any other and it's big events are almost universally anticipated. A lot of cash to be made at the top of boxing too.
I don't disagree with you, but to the majority of the nation,
its a niche sport.
Boxing isn't considered one of the major sports.
Sad, but true, which is why you rarely see coverage of it in your local paper.

Am sure Tennis started random testing 2 years ago and since then they have caught a lot of tennis players juicing up and ban them, The funny thing is people like Andre agassi recently came out and admit drug use while he was active.

Most professional sports don't have random drug testing. That's for amateur and olympics
In Britain I think all sports have random drug testing. That's the impression I got from reading a few articles anyway; I couldn't find anything specifically on anti-doping so I'm just going by tidbits and filling in the gaps.
I highly doubt that any of the major yank sports like football, basketball, hockey and baseball has any kind of random blood testing what so ever. The yanks don't mind being fooled.
Remember the first time the NBA players was to participate in the olympics? They had 2 conditions. The first was that they didn't want to stay in the olympic village. The second was that the wouldn't be available for any kind of drugtesting.
