I'm thinking if it does anywhere between 500-800k (which I think it will) it should be considered a success. Since Pac is carrying this fight by himself and Top Rank isn't putting much effort into promoting this, I'm not expecting a million buys.
For comparision sake since DLH is the ppv king (outside the HW division) He is a look into all the fights he carried by himself:
Camacho 560k
Quartey 570k
Mosley 590k
Castillejo 400k
Campas 350k
Sturm 380k
These were considered "Oscar" fights, in which opponents didn't have much of a fan base and people were solely tuning into see DLH fight. Pac is in a similar situation were most of the buys (if not all) will be people tuning in to see a "Pacquiao" fight. So what do you guys think? How much does this have to sell to be considered a success?
If Mayweather can do 1.1m against Marquez I think it'd be disappointing (for those who call Pacquiao the foremost cash cow of boxing) if it did less than 700k.
I think Pacquiao can account for ~500k singlehandedly now, and then you got the added interest of a seemingly competetive welterweight match-up.
pactards will consider it a success if it does 50k buys
If its a good exciting fight, why not? I'd rather watch a fight that is exciting and does 50k, than one that sucks and does a million buys. Marketing executives should concern themselves with PPV numbers. Fans of the sport really shouldn't give a hit as it doesn't affect them.
it would have to do somewhere close to Mayweather v Mosley.I would say it actually needs to do over 750 - 800K to be considered a sucess given the venue and the Pac hype late last year and early this year.
I can't see May v Mosley doing less than 1 million even though Shane is not a drawcard. All American clash with prob a good undercard and a large promotional window. If Alvarez is on the card it should ensure the mexican market is on board as the fight is only a few days before the 5th. Also Mayweather has proven selling power in what Mark Taffet referred to as "urban markets." Also even if u hate the man you must admit 24/7 is always more entertaining with Floyd, The Predator and Roger "The mouth" Mayweather.
Bottom line the clottey fight needs to be comparable in numbers or pac will have less leverage in round 2 negotiations.
imho only 50-50 parity will work on this fight no other option will, and if we want to see PAC-PBF to happen, fans gotta buy them ppvs for the Clottey fight ....
another option is hope that PAC losses the f_cking elections!

PAC is getting bigger since dela hoya fight, if this fight garner lesser than 600K, I will attribute it to the Mayweathers character assasination of PAC and should be put in evidence on the defamation law suit...
IMHO to be considered a success this fight should do 600K ppv around 30M$ Gross
Yeah, why arent Top Rank doing anything to promote this fight more? i wondered why i havent heard much about PAC vs Clottey.... i thought because i live in AUS i must not see most of the promotions but seeing as you guys mentioned it.
This fight should do more than 500k sells IMO.
No need to do any extra promotion for this. Pac fights sells because of his guaranteed action pack fights. Pac sucks in English & all u guys make fun of him and yet he still consistently sells Million PPV. Action is his selling point.
Floyd strategy is to pissed off boxing fans so we will buy his fight to see him lose. Then fans will not be satisfied coz he didnt lose... & he almost guarantee a boring fight. Buyers beware.... I'm not buying any of Floyd's fight anymore!!! I youtube it for free!!
If you consider that both Pac and Clottey are not American fighters, 800K PPV sales will look impressive.
The Cotto and Pacquiao bout that reached an astounding 1.2 M PPV sales are unprecedented for foreign born fighters.
You guys are already making excuses, lmao.
Manny's fans always say he's the most popular boxer in the sport, he was on Time magazine, cash cow, etc. let's see if he can carry a PPV on his own.
He has to sell over one million PPV.
Saying there is pretty much zero promotion for this fight, anything over 400k would be a success. I have never seen this little promotion for a fighter of Pacman's stature.
The fight was only signed 2 months before the actual fight date. At first, i got into that "who has PPV buys" argument. But now, just want Pac to win, don't care if PBF makes more money or PPV buys.

I think this will sell a Million PPV. Pac's last 3.. average over a Million, 1.3 for DLH, .89M for Hatton & 1.3 for Cotto. But Pac's not fighting a Bum. He's fighting the next available contender. An African who was never been close to being knocked out. PPV buyers will be guaranteed more than 6 rds of quality action. This is no DLH vs an undersized B fighter like Forbes. This is Pac vs the biggest fighter he'll ever face.
Another attraction will be the fight athmosphere and a big crowd in one of the biggest and newest stadium in the world. This is what they selling, The greatest and the most entertaining action fighter against the toughest to date opponent in clottey. Guaranteed to get your money's worth. You cant say the same for that pussy boring floyd.
only ones were Judah and Cotto fights. unless you mean he was the #1 known guy then no.
500-600 would be a success imo since Clottey is not known well to casual fans.
Yeah your right, forgot to mention those two...but yea they weren't PPV...
nobody knows who da fack clottey is so pac is selling this fight BY HIMSELF. 800k will be impressive.
his ticket selling power is ridiculous, 20k in a fackin day.
couldve been 20k the first day but then like another 2k the next....
we havent heard anything since then..i think tickets are going slow..well compared to how big the place is...
and why is mayweather at the ASG when pac is the one fighting there...lol
About 600K or so...
I'm sure his fellow countrymen fans will buy it and other casual fans who just like to watch him fight...
Clottey's never headlined a PPV...or HBO card that I can think of...
Yea so what I aint a Pacquiao fan...
