There are quite a few good Cuban defectors right now.
Who is going the farthest in your mind?
Haven't had the chance to see all of them fight. The two that I have seen: Rigondeaux and Gamboa look like future stars though. I think the sky is the limit for both fighters.
Okay, someone fill me in... I have always thought Lara was impressive, but I missed his last couple of fights. What happened that deflated his reputation?
i like escalante ... shame eveyones outta the division and hes still there holding his dick ...
Yeah, Escalante is the real deal. He's not elite by any means, but he's definitely going to hold a world title at 122 in the near future.
Way to passive. If the other guy doesn't make a mistake or let his hands go he doesn't fire his punches.
He can easily be outworked at world level.
Roach is working on that to make him more agressive and leading and in his last fight he already made a statement with that 28 sec knockout.
Gamboa and Rigo will go far, Rigo could fight for a title or at least eliminator in this year already. They say he was THE best amateur ever! He had only 4 defeats in over 300 or 400 amateurs!
Lara is not that impressive but hes the youngest. Solis has all the tools too but he has to lose some weight. Hes still verry fast for his weight though, and hes verry calm and professional in the ring. I wish he would be more professional in training.
sorry i just dont see lopez staniding in the way of gamboa, i think he will get wiped out thats why top rank is protecting him, even bob arum knows it. after the hbo fight he was like oh shit.... never mind then
Rigondeaux he looks so ring saavy already his last fight was nuts fake up top then the killer bodyshot.
All his experience at Ams level is so helpful right now and like someone has said he could fight for a world title now and not be over awed and prob would win
rigondeaux and gamboa. i would say gamboa because he has a little bit of advantage on age based on pro years but im sure they both will do awesome
lara on the other hand im not as impressed as other people but he has room to improve
I wouldn't talk about it if not.
It was onBradway Boxing,I downloaded it from the video section from this site acyually.
Ugly to watch,Rigondeaux knocked him down in the first and Addy just covered up all fight.Rigo won 7 out of 8 rounds,he lost the second round on just 1 big punch landed by Addy.
He has this problem with being too passive that Roach needs to fix.
Personally I think he's one of the best JFWs along with Caballero and Nishioka altough I don't know if he'd beat either one. He'd have a better chance with Nishioka
ya he cant fight on the front foot ... he needs someone to lead. caballero aint all that, Rigondeaux loses to him now prob but in a couple more fights he prob be able to beat him ... i cant say for nish cause i havent seen too much of him
Same here. Since all the talent has moved out of 122 for the most part (Lopez, Caballero, Marquez, Vazquez), and I know nothing about the Japanese titleholder who beat Jhonny Gonzalez, so I would really be interested to see him fight Antonio Escalante (who I think is the best established fighter left at 122).

Was that fight televised?

Maybe,I don't think so.Lante Addy completely shut him counterpunching down by covering himself up all night.Sure he didn't fiught to win but he ain't world class either.
He will be a force to be reckoned with but he is very beatable.
Was that fight televised?
It's going to take someone really fast, accurate and who has a good defense (meaning they get those hands back to guard them extremely fast) to completely shut down Rigondeaux's counterpunching game. That body shot KO on FNF probably could have put some champions both down and out. That was wicked.
ya i heard the guy got hit felt Rigondeaux power 1st rd and backed off survival mode for the rest. and Rigon didnt really do anything effective from the kd on .... the crowd was booing like crazy too ... but he still clearly won. he needs pro seasoning is all at least i hope. hes still a great talent no doubt
Gotcha.
I see what you mean, but I see his counters being too sharp for him to lose via workrate. Also, he goes to the body hard and I could see him slowing most guys down. I have a higher opinion of him than most, though. I think he could win a world title tomorrow.
