we all know mannys the fighter of the decade good 4 him
but what fighters owned their or a single weightclass for the most time outta the decade or just who was the best in that perticular weightclass heres what i have so far
heavy weight~wladimir klitchko
light heavy~roy jones jr
super middle ~joe calzaghe
middle~b hop
light middle~winky wright
welterweight~floyd mayweather
light welter~ricky hatton
lightweight~castillo
featherweight~marquez
i personally think vitalis better than wald but wald did so much more these past 10 yrs with vitali being hurt
and i wouldnt give anyone a shot @ prime 154 winky not even floyd unless of course he was robbed
To be fair, I thought Tarver beat Dawson BOTH times. Anyway, I'm beginning to lean towards Dawson for the decade. He beat Adamek, Tarver and Johnson twice...not too shabby.
Please tell me that was sarcasm and I just overlooked it...
Welterweight is a toss up between Shane, Margarito, and Cotto. I can see any of them being number 1.
im also glad 2 see everyone agree that HATTON was the best jww of the decade
between him n tszyu obv
light heavy is a very tough dec but roy had the first 3 yrs of the decade n came back @ the end so i gave it 2 him
WW is tough cause it was so stacked
but mayweather came out undefeated ..not like he fought anyone but imo he wouldnt have loss anyway
id agree with cotto mosley margarito since he prolly has the most fights @ 147
FLOYD MAYWEATHER - WELTERWEIGHT
WTFFFFFFFFFFFF
He beat overrated JUDAH,HATTON,and guy with 50 losses BALDOMIR.
PACQUIAO beat HOYA,COTTO,and now he will beat CLOTTEY and thats enough!
no one can beat him @ ww
Yeah, I don't know about Roy...
His LHW days went from 2000-2002.. then one win over Tarver in 2003.
And it ended there... His decade was the 90's.
I don't even know who you would put for this decade... Tarver? ehhh...
It kinda went Roy > Tarver > Dawson for the 2000s
lol thats hwy i put roy
tito and winky were ahead of oscar. didn't you see the list I typed out? 1.winky, 2.tito, 3.shane, then 4.oscar.
Look at the top 10 i posted. I don't see how oscar doesn't fit right in the middle of those named fighters.
Honestly, you could put a bunch of people ahead of Oscar. Doesn't necessarily mean they're good but they just did more at 154. Sh*t, you could put Kassim Ouma ahead of him. I'd have to sit down and take a look but Shane and Oscar aren't top five at 154. They're just nice names who had their fights showcased.
It's really hard to list them all because some divisions were in a state on flux for the past 10 years without a clear leader. Only a few divisions have clear cut guys who were ahead of the pack.
Heavyweight: Lewis
Cruiserweight: Haye
Light Heayweight: Jones Jr
Super Middleweight: Calzaghe
Middleweight: Hopkins
Light Middleweight: Wright
Welterweight: Mosley
Jr Welterweight: Hatton
Lightweight: Castillo
Super Featherweight: Pacquiao
There has been no dominant fighter at Light heavy since Roy. The division is in a sad state, maybe this decade will be better.
Maybe it has to be Roy because who are the other options? It feels wrong to call Tarver light heavy of the decade on the sole merit of beating a drained and faded version of Roy. Dawson maybe but what has he really done at light heavy except beating Tarver and Johnson, Roy beat Tarver to...
The Morales wins were at 130. Marquez's win over Barrera was as well. Manny spent only a short time at 126; Marquez was consistently near the top of the class from 2000-06. I'd give him the edge as Feather of the decade.
You could make a case for Dawson as well. Johnson and Tarver (X2), Harding, and Adamek were as strong a run as Jones in the 00-03 at 75. I think those two could easily have a case for 1-2, though Tarver is in the mix too because he really had a strong run from 00-04.
bolded...good post
ok, please show me your top ten and where oscar fits in. Thanks
I don't have a top ten for JMW. But I'll do one for every weight class. But the top junior middle for the decade is easily Winky. Hell, I'd put Tito ahead of DLH for 154 for the past decade.
What do you mean?
Disputed loss to shane mosley, TKO Gatti, Castillejo, TKO Fernando Vargas, TKO Campas, TKO Mayorga.
That doesn't sound THAT great but looking at the top 10 JM well, #4 sounds about right. (i missed mosley by mistake). Here is the rings top 10 for JW:
1. Winky
2. Trinidad
3. Mosley
4. Oscar
5. Vargas
6. Sergei Dzindziruk
7. Daniel Santos
8. Kassim Ouma
9. Vernon Forrest
10. Cory Spinks
You act like Shane Mosley was some star at 154 so the fact that Oscar lost a disputed decision to him means something. Newsflash, Shane Mosley did next to nothing at 154.
2. The Gatti win meant SQUAT and was at 147, not 154.
3. Castillejo? Didn't I just say don't tell me about some chump he beat for a title?
4. Campas? Campas? Lord, have mercy. Come on NATAS, I thought you followed the sport back then.
Well Tarver got 2 titles when he beat Griffin... then he lost them in his very next fight when Roy came back from HW to beat him.. then Tarver got em back in the rematch... then he lost to Johnson... then he beat Johnson and Roy in the rubbermatch... then Tarver lost to BHOP, had a couple more wins and then lost to Dawson twice.
To be fair, I thought Tarver beat Dawson BOTH times. Anyway, I'm beginning to lean towards Dawson for the decade. He beat Adamek, Tarver and Johnson twice...not too shabby.
What in the world has Oscar De La Hoya accomplished this decade? And don't tell me about titles that he took from chumps or has-beens. What has he done?
Sold a shit ton of PPVS?

agree with ur list...good pick as well

I agree. I think it's a toss-up between Tarver and Dawson and I lean toward the latter. Gotta think about this a bit.
It's hard not to. From 00-03, he was still IMO the best fighter in the world. The slip starts in Tarver I and then avalanches, but he still has that first win. That Roy would be Light Heavyweight champ right now though Dawson may be getting the seasoning to make a case against that.
Yeah, which was pretty much my main point... Roy was MAIN LHW for 4 years... the last 6 is mixmatched between Tarver, Johnson, and Dawson... Where none really RAN the entire division. Until now Dawson has cleared out the old guys. 2010 decade will be Chads though, as long as he doesn't drop down to 168 for lack of paydays at LHW.
I wasn't dismissing Tarver... I was just stating exactly what happened.
You end up rating Jones as #1 then....
