Shane Mosley is an incredible boxer. He is very exciting to watch. He possesses life threatening offensive abilities and has proved to be a finisher. But Shane lacks the ability to adjust in a fight. Vernon Forrest kept him at bay with his jab and Mosley was never able to make the proper adjustment. The rematch was the same outcome. Winky Wright controlled both fights with his jab and defense, Mosley could never make the adjustments. Shane has had trouble with boxers with good defense. Floyd is arguably the best pure boxer to ever lace up a pair of gloves. I believe that his chin is very underrated, I can't really back up that statement because he's never been tested as he's never been in danger. Floyd will easily dominate this fight. I'm not downgrading Mosley's abilities but I just don't see how Mosley can win.
I honestly believe Floyd beats anyone from 135-160. I think he dominates Mosley. I think he dominates Manny. I'm willing to listen to any argument involving Mayweather-Williams but I still think Floyd beats Paul.
this is a really good thread! i appreciate the pure boxing talk. but imho, i think people think too highly of may. but i do understand why. may was an artist in the lower weight classes: i too was amazed, but he is about to fight someone his equal or better in every facet of the game, except defence. what shane lacks in d, he more than makes it up in desire, inner strength, and hustle.
I can never predict Shane Mosley though, he is really itching for recognition. He wants to shock the world by beating Floyd. That kind of fire, after marriage breakup and being booed by the Mexican crowd made him do the unthinkable to Margarito.
Who knows what Floyd is up against...
Everybody talks about how bad Shane wants this. But you haven't mentioned the 0 that Mayweather loses if he loses this fight. You don't mention the enormous payday he loses with Pac. The hunger to win this fight works both ways so I don't really put that into factor.
But regardless of how bad Shane wants it, if he ain't got the talent to do it then his heart isn't really a threat.
Not to mention the fact that Margarito was tailor made for his style. Slow, straight forward, plodding, and no defense. He did not do the unthinkable. Margarito was never the monster they made him out to be. Go watch the Margarito vs. Clottey fight. Joshua Clottey was putting serious hands on that boy before he broke his hand in that fight.
Shane`s short, fast triple jabs may blind Floyd, rendering that shoulder defense useless, and may set him up for a bomb.
Shane can also fight rough and dirty, so we really don`t know what to expect.
As of right now Floyd is not arguably the best pure boxer of all time. He may be in that
discussion by the time he retires. Just cuz you argue about it on nsb doesn't make it arguable.
You don't see how Shane can win? How about Floyd hasn't been hit by a real ww ever, how about if Floyd can't hurt Shane.
if u know like a know....anybody can be hurt with the right shot. And the right shot depends on accuracy and there is no more accurate a fighter than the great Floyd Mayweather.
Forrest wasn't the biggest puncher in the world either but he put Mosley on the canvas. Off balance and going for broke will and can be a downfall for Shane.
Again, like others have said, we have seen Shane outboxed by Cotto who can't even punch and move simultaneously. We've seen Shane being out boxed by Mayorga, and we've Shane struggled with a past it Vargas.
Floyd hasn't been hit by anyone really flushed in any weight class. I don't see Shane making that breakthrough on May 1st.

Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright fight nothing like Floyd Mayweather. They also had size and strength allowing them to handle Mosley's own strength and the ability to mix it up with Shane that Floyd doesn't.
Shane can win because he is still fast, has great handspeed, will not be bothered by most of what Floyd throws, and will be able to outmuscle Floyd when he gets close. He is also an old pro that has seen plenty and faced tougher stylistic matchups than what Floyd presents.
Where was all this when he fought Ricardo Mayorga? Wasn't he still fast, with great handspeed..etc.etc..etc? Did u watch that fight? He was letting Mayorga outbox him...LOL...if that's what Mayorga call boxing...Seriously go back and watch Shane's last 4 fights...
That is true about Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright but Floyd don't need the strength he just needs to be able to counter which he is great at and he needs to control distance which is another thing that he is great at...Trust me..Floyd is going to neutralize all those looping punches Shane throws and Shane better stop throwing punches with his eyes close because he could end up getting off the floor

All that could be true but Ill take Shane's side for this argument. Shane is dumb and cant adjust but he has one of the smartest trainers in the game so that will help him alot. With his dad in his corner, Floyd would kill Shane but with Naz that changes things. People with jabs have given Shane big problems, including Cotto. Floyd has a great jab but he also rarely uses it. He seem to bring it back more last fight and with his dad back helping out but will he use it enough in this one to keep Shane honest? By fight night Floyd will have only had 1 fight in 2 and a half years or 2 fights in 3 years with one of those fights being what some may call a glorified sparring match against a smaller man. Shane's size, strength, and power could be a shock to Floyd's system after that long layoff and that tuneup against a smaller man.
Again, this is not me talking. Just taking Shane's side for the sake of the argument
