Seems like we've been having ourselves an informal super 6 tourney in the welterweight division in the past few years. The top 6 fighters according to the Ring magazine are:
1. Pacquiao
2. Mosley
3. Mayweather
4. Cotto
5. Clottey
6. Margarito
So far the results have been:
Margarito UD Clottey (Dec 2006)
Cotto UD Mosley (Nov 2007)
Margarito TKO11 Cotto (Jul 2008)
Mosley TKO9 Margarito (Jan 2009)
Cotto SD Clottey (June 2009)
Pacquiao TKO12 Cotto (Nov 2009)
Still to come:
Pacquiao vs Clottey (March 2010)
Mayweather vs Mosley (May 2010)?
Record so far:
Pac 1-0
Mosley 1-1
Mayweather 0-0
Cotto 2-2
Clottey 0-2
Margarito 2-1
Some thoughts:
- AHEM Mayweather 0-0
- Cotto is a TOUGH sumbitch. He's fought 4/5 of these guys already (*cough floyd cough*)
- if oscar was on the list, mosley's record would be 2-1 if you included the first fight and pac's would be 2-0. floyd's fight with oscar doesn't count cause it was at junior middleweight
thoughts? do these guys deserve their spots in the rankings?
actually, is floyd really even ON the list, given that he hasn't fought anyone on it, and hasn't even signed the damn contract to fight mosley?
who would win in the remaining fantasy fights (say pac vs margarito, floyd vs clottey etc) and how?
should boxing media advertise this as a quasi-super 6 tourney and put up rankings and win-loss standings?

i doubt marg would be in there...depends if hes allowed back in boxing
That table shows why i respect Cotto. That 2-2 in his colum says alot about him i reckon, same with Mosely. I think if a 'Super 6 tournament' was offered to those 6 fighters, it would only be Mayweather to turn it down.
Indeed, Cotto only have left Mayweather to face!
Cotto is a tough mofo.....And FMJ didnt want none of him......said something like PR is far away or some sh.it like that...
The welterweight division has produced lots of great fights, mostly due to the fact that the top fighters like Clottey, Cotto, Mosley and Margarito have been more than willing to fight each other. Now Pacquiao has been added to the mix, has beaten Cotto, is set to face Clottey and then Margarito/Mosley could be next this year.
A welterweight super 6 would be a personal nightmare for Floyd, being forced to fight Pacquiao, Margarito, Clottey and Cotto after Mosley? Not in a million years would he agree to that. Hopefully he'll stop acting like a 10 year-old and just sign that contract so we can see him in at least one of these "super 6" fights.

Glad to see Floyd's maintaining that "0".
Put Berto in over Clottey... Not that Clottey isnt a very good fighter.. but its time for Berto to be included.
If he isnt that good, then we would find out real quick... but Clottey has had his shots, Berto hasnt yet.
thats the fight i hope happens now berto vs cotto fock that 154 belt theres still a lot left in cottos tank and with a new corner this should be a great fight and test for berto. cotto vs berto make it happen bob !!!!!! :boxing:

agree with you, clottey's fought better opposition but came out on the losing end of his big fights, berto's undefeated but his biggest wins so far have been against urango and collazo... maybe it's time to give the guy a chance at the top. but so far, he hasn't participated in the super 6 cause he hasn't fought any of those guys.
but then again... someone on that list hasn't fought any of the others either.
