Instead of facing hard-hitting mandatory Marcos Maidana, Amir Khan was decided to duck his mandatory to fight an opponent he sees as more easily beatable. Problem is that, much like with the Prescott fight and with his announcement of a desire to fight Mayweather, Amir Khan is so far out of touch with reality that he fails to see the facts of the matter.
The facts are simple.
1) You don't need to hit Amir Khan hard to hurt him, just hit him clean.
2) Maidana is a limited boxer, JMM is a great boxer
3) Khan has never faced anyone remotely close to JMM skill wise
Khan has adopted the a new style, much like David Haye, that consists of running around the ring like a raging homo. That style would be great for someone like Maidana who would get very frustrated and start throwing any semblance of a fight plan out of the window.
JMM on the other hand will be well aware of what Khan intends to do and will be well prepared for it come fight night. Khan will likely be able to win the early rounds based of his size and speed advantages but the difference between JMM and Maidana is patience.
JMM will be disciplined knowing that sooner or later Khan will think he is having an easy night and he will slip up. When Khan does JMM will hit him with a countershot that he doesn't see and it will be goodnight Sweet Price for Amir Khan't. Unlike so many of the chumps that have dropped Khan before JMM is too damn good to let him off the hook once he hurts him.
Horrible choice by Khan, his manager and promotor. Instead of facing a crude fighter who would have trouble landing a decisive blow they are gonna go in with one of the top counterpunchers of this generation. All it takes is one good punch to beat Khan and JMM is way too good not to land it during a 36 minute fight.
Also Roach saying that this is gonna be like the Barrera fight is a joke.
JMM is a little bigger than Barrera first of all. Secondly Barrera was washed up well before he faced Khan. There is no proof that Marquez is washed up like that. Barrera was basically done in 2006 when he struggled to a split decision against Rocky Juarez, a guy he would have shut out in his prime. His fight with Khan was a full 3 years after that....
Id see JMM beating khan by UD. I can see khan trying to pressurising JMM early in the fight, maybe for the first 3 rounds. But Jmm is one of the best counter-punches in the world,id see khan getting frustrated and jmm taking full advantage of that.
That's how I see it too.
I expect Khan to look great early and start getting overconfident by the mid rounds.
Once JMM lands a solid counterpunch it will make Amir change up and start fighting negatively. Khan's best defense is a great offense and JMM counterpunching will make him afraid to attack which will give JMM more than enough chances to close down the distance and rough Khan up.
I kinda expect it to be like the Chambers-Dimitrenko fight with the smaller man slowly but surely breaking down the defense of a bigger and stronger opponent. Only difference here is that Khan will be knocked out by the same kind of clean punching that only hurt Dimitrenko.

The reason why he wants to fight marquez is because he is a fighter who fought mayweather and wants to see how he fares against marquez compared to mayweather and after that he wants to fight zab judah(another previous mayweather opponent.)So his ultimate goal is in fighting mayweather.just like how mayweather purposely chose marquez as he showed the world that he can do a better job than pacquiao.
He beat an ancient Marco, now he is going for an old Marquez, and next will be a 400 pound Morales. Then Ricky Hatton, and then Cotto. Khan is taking the Roach path. If some of these guys were old when Pac fought them, what does that say about Khan? Nothing like building a name on the backs of old legends.
I don't think the fight will be too difficult for Khan. He's bigger than Marquez, a lot quicker, he can also pop a little and he's working with the best trainer in the business who will formulate the best strategy for victory. Marquez shouldn't really be fighting above 135. He looked slow and lethargic at 144, I suspect he will also look slow in this fight as he's fighting Khan, whose handspeed is comparable to Floyd's (he's probably quicker actually). JM is a great counterpuncher but he caught a beating off Floyd and I think Amir will execute a similar strategy, picking his way to a UD. Might have to weather a couple of Marquez storms, but I think they'll be brief and Khan will potshot and outland him.
Exactly what i think Khan is too big, fast and strong for the Marquez who look very sluggish at light welter. Marquez is on his way out for sure if he dont go down to superfeather or lightweight.

You basically stated all the reasons I think this will be a fun fight. I used to hate Khan but now that he's got Roach I've come around. He's looked great lately, but cmon it JMM. Tough fight for both men. As long as it's the JMM of old and not the old fat JMM from the Mayweather fight I got JMM getting a knock out late in the fight.

Put some points on it. I got a milli on Amir.
The same overrated Marquez that gave Pacquiao the two hardest fights of his career and stopped Joel Casamayor for the first time? Who's never been KO'd? Will get knocked out by the same chump who recently got KTFO'd in the first round? That guy? Marquez is a legend, Khan will fold.
Amir Khan is not as fast as Mayweather and certainly not Pacquiao. And JMM has more than enough pop to put his glass-jawed ass down on the canvas, especially because I see him coming in a few pounds below the limit. Yes, Roach has seen Marquez twice before, but he's riding a completely different horse here and Marquez beat Pac-Man twice, I don't give a shit what the judges say. Amir is going to start strong, but then Marquez is going to close on him and give him a whooping. He's just too skilled and he has that lion in his heart that Khan so obviously doesn't.
Plenty of mixed reactions here. Personally, I think this is easy work for Khan, but it really depends on how JMM looks. If its the same fat and slow version that showed up against Mayweather then Khan will take an easy UD win. If JMM can bring some speed then he might have a chance, but I just can't see him winning this.
Khan is definitely as fast as Mayweather and Pacquiao, but the difference is that he isn't as accurate as Mayweather and he can't put strong combinations together like Pacquiao, but then again who can? He couldnt be in better hands, sparring with Pacquiao and coached by Freddie Roach. You're goina see a much smarter and sharper Amir Khan against JMM.
Khan by UD.
Great, neutral post. Well observed and very true. Green k.

Hitting Khan clean is easy, but hitting him when he is faster than you by quite bit at 140 is another story.
Khan does have a huge weakness is having a weak chin, but Roach has a huge advantage of seeing JMM twice. Also JMM is not the same kind of fighter he was at 135 let alone 126.
Khan is making a brilliant business move in my opinion. Even if he loses, but looks good, that will get him some fans for sure. There will be haters, always is in boxing, but he will get some fans.
Maidana is clearly a limited boxer with a great punch. If he lsoes to him, then the outcome is a lot worse. I wnated him to beat Maidana and show off his skills, and I thought he would of, but JMM is a damn good boxer.
However I feel JMM at 142 was very poor. Maybe at 140 it will be easier for him, but his age is right to be taken on and the wars he has been in will clearly wear him down.
Khan wins by UD, a close fight but his speed in the opening rounds will be the key. JMM will work him out and come abck, but not enough.
