Just a hypothetical question here. I know Arum wants to get Manny a title at 154 so he can be the only boxer in the history with titles in 8 different weight classes (to enhance Manny's legacy). Do you see Arum trying to pull something like this off? IMO Cotto would be the perfect guy to do it against, and they could even play the whole "Cotto only lost because he was weight drained" angle. Also he will have a new trainer, so by him looking sensational, all the pieces are in place for Manny to win a title at 154 this fall (in case FMJ vs PAC doesn't get made.
Also Im willing to bet that if Foreman wins, then for sure Arum will set up Pac vs Foreman.
are you sure you watch the fight...I had cotto winning 1 and 3 but lost it cuz of the knockdowns..maybe 5th or 6th round too but cant remember... after he was just trying to survive the whole fight trying to make it pass the 12th round.
I took a train back to my parents house so I could watch that fight with certaintity.
The two rounds that he got knocked down in, if it were not for the knockdowns I'd have given them to him, my memory on the fight is a bit hazy now but when I watched it for a second time that is what I thought.
Of course knock downs are a part of the fight, and he deservedly lost those rounds so don't think I'm taking anything away from Pacquiao. It's just that I feel he was able to compete in that fight and that a rematch would still be up in the air depending on how the first half of the fight goes.
The way how people are speaking it's as though Cotto put out such a pathetic performance that he doesn't deserve a rematch.
Knockdowns are part of the fight and full credit to Pacquiao for getting them however if you take the knockdowns away I'd have Cotto winning both of those fights, as such I'd have him winning the first 6 rounds 5-1.
Getting straight to the point, if it wasn't for the knockdowns he would have had more options going into the second half of the fight.
Providing his body heals, he has what it takes to compete at a high level, just needs to fine tune some things. Rematches have occurred in more one sided fights.

doesn't mean it's a good idea though
let's be honest cotto is a brave warrior but he's not intelligent enough to box a disciplined fight through 12 rounds which is what he would have to do to beat pac
Pac made him trade and the gameplan (if he even had one) went out the window trading shots with pacquiao is not the way to beat him
pacquiao is just way too quick for cotto no point in a rematch whatsoever

If Cotto beats Foreman we need to see how is his speed, Pacquiao at 154 won't keep that same speed. Cotto might have a strength advantage at 154 but IMO Pacquiao proved he was the better man. I don't want to see that fight unless he literally destroys Yuri Foreman.

I was thinking the same thing a couple of weeks ago, at 154 Cotto would smash Pacs face, in his 145 match with Pac, Cotto hurt him a couple of times but Pac hide it pretty well. Lets hope it will happen.
I think that match will only happen if other top fighters insists on random blood tests up until the fight against Manny, and if Cotto win some big fights.
What if Cotto dominates Foreman and then dominates the winner of Spinks-K9? He would unify two titles at 154 in dominant fashion...
Naw forget Spinks-K9.
I want to see him dominate Dzindiruk or Williams.
Cotto is done.
He already BRUTALLY KO'd him. Cotto beating other fighters doesnt change the fact that Pac already destroyed him.
What a joke.
Now thats cherry picking a title.

that is a little more realistic cotto would have to impress in more then one fight and make people forget about the last fight with pac in order to draw the casual fans interest in a rematch
Cotto is shot. Who cares if he were to magically beat Foreman? Arum will do whatever he decides, but that doesn't make it a good fight. Pacquiao should just man up and take the damn blood tests.

only if pac loses to clottey would this be possible
Why? I'm just saying that Arum whats pac to get a title at 154 and this would be a golden opportunity. In reality I think Pac will fight either Angulo or Foreman (if he beats Cotto) for 154 title.
