I have just received my new issue in the post, BM asked 38 people from the boxing community, who would win this fight if it were to happen.
The result: 25 in favour of Mayweather and 13 in favour of Manny.
An example of people who voted floyd are:
Carl Froch
Buddy McGirt
Johnny Nelson
Barry McGuigan
Tim Bradley
Antonio Tarver
Ricky Hatton
Some people who voted Pacquiao are:
Bert Sugar
Frank Maloney
Ken Buchanan
Steve Collins
Angelo Dundee
Dominic Ingle
Marco Huck
In my opinion i feel Manny will outspeed Mayweather and i don't think he can shoulder roll 8,9,10 punches all coming in a second.
Anyway, i know it has been done before, but i am now turning it to Boxingscene members, who will win this fight?
Please vote, and briefly state WHY you think the fight will go that way......
If this fight happened march 13 I would give the edge to PAC because FLoyd only had 1 fight in the past 2 years against JMM whose size and style is tailor made for Floyd. In reality the more Floyd is active the easier it would be for him to beat Pac due to timing.
I see Floyd winning a knockout in the 10th round due to his defense and hand speed. A good counterpuncher in JMM came close twice in beating PAC bit a great counterpuncher in Floyd would catch A courageous Manny on his way in.
i agree but he has not fought a guy of manny's caliber before, and castillo did get to him and i think floyd was better than, more active. but that goes both way's, however you can't really compare old manny fights cause he has improved so much in the past couple years, moving up in weight has benefited him and his combo's are so much better than back in the day.
in the first fight floyd broke his hand...go and look at the second fight
I'm with the Floyd crowd on this one. One thing that could change the course of the fight however is, how will Floyd's power affect Pac?
Like it has been stated before, Floyd sticks close to the lefty's, but has notably been on the backfoot against pressure fighters, and there is no doubt that Pac will be pressuring. I'd like to see how Floyd will give Pac second thoughts, because i haven't seen Pac in trouble since moving up from Lightweight.
Also, with the pot-shotting Floyd in the JMM fight, Floyd had a gameplan and stuck with it. It worked in dominating fashion. One thing i know is that Floyd will throw more against Pac, he'll stick and move enough to frustrate Pac IMO.
Floyd UD.
I agree. Sometimes I think labels are overblown. Floyd may have gotten that label from the Baldomir and Oscar matchups but he hardly fights that way.
yea, I agree. But the way he fights really depends on his opponent and I think that may be his best attribute, being able to adjust to whatever style that he faces in the ring.
I don't know. Also, in his history of fighting southpaws he usually applies more pressure than normally does.

Emma Watson loves you :D
Any who, my vote is on Pacquiao unless Floyd proves me wrong. If there is such a fight.
Corrct me if i'm wrong but it seems to me that Floyd has always backpedaled, and looking at some of the bombs Manny has been landing recently, i get the idea Floyd ain't gonna stand around.
no he has not always backpadaled John. If you notice, when he has fought the bigger fighters, his style is more of moving and boxing, rather than "backpedaling". This can be seen in his fights with JLC, Chico, Baldo, DHL. Its pure boxing, where he has great movement, to offset his opponents size.

Floyd can box going backwards and has - most notably against Castillo and Baldomir, for instance. He's also perfectly capable of coming forward and being the aggressor (Judah, Corley...actually, most of his fights).
But what I don't understand is the reasoning that he's going to backpedal just because Pac is throwing bombs. Like Bernard Hopkins said, "if someone has a gun, you have a better chance by staying close to the person, not running away because that's how they can catch you." Typically, Floyd stays close to lefties. And the underrated aspect of his game (and perhaps Manny's weakest) is fighting on the inside. Floyd will jab on the outside but he'll want to keep Manny close; like phone booth close, where Pac can't use his excellent footwork to catch him from weird angles and where Mayweather can go to work. I don't see him fighting on the outside as much as people are saying.
What in the world makes people think Floyd would backpedal against Pacquiao? No way.

Lmao... now thats some kung fu shit right there 10 punchers per second????
like the other poster says, if u cant find him then none of that "speed" matters, u have to watch how maywether fights, he does a lot of things in the ring that u may not understand, he doesnt have the best defense for nothing, people dont land a low percentage on him for nothing, it is much more than shoulder roll's and making people miss

close fight, i think pac's speed, movement, and work rate will beat mayweather. in floyds latest fight's he doesn't move a lot or throw a lot of punches, i really think that will hurt him against manny.
the expert believed that cotto fight will be hard and a win for cotto agiast pac-u.
the public belived this fight is 3 to 1 in pac-u's favour.....
experts can be wrong
I never said we should take the 'experts' word as gospel, i was just sharing what they said. I wanted to see what we thought the outcome would be on here.
