So Cotto has decided to move up and if he will most likely retire after the Yuri Foreman fight. But let's say he doesn't, I'm curious to see how he would handle himself at middleweight...
vs Yuri Foreman;
Yuri has no power but a very good boxing ability. Still, if he can't keep Cotto at bay with his jab constantly moving, Cotto will get him late
vs Martinez/Sergei:
they both beat him IMO. They are natural 154lbs and been in there with bigger men. Both have enough power to get Cotto late
vs Cory Spinks:
Spinks have been done for a while and Cotto would walk him down.
Cotto has been in some TOUGH wars in 147 and this has affected him pretty bad. He swells all too easy now and vs the bigger men this will affect him bad. He can beat some guys up there but no way will he be a dominating force at 154. The only thing that will help him greatly is to keep his power or get stronger. BUT BEFORE ANYTHING HE NEEDS TO GET BACK WITH HIS UNCLE OR GET A REAL CORNER... that's it
cotto is too small to go up to the next division. He was able to meet the catchweight with his fight with Pacquiao, thus, it shouldnt be the weight as the basis to go up. The level of competition? The 147 lbs still has a lot to choose from.
cotto is too small to win a title at 154, these guys weigh 170 on fight night after weighing in at 154. he'd get hurt bad by any puncher with above average skills
another thing is that he is supposed to retire after this fight so a tune up would only delay this. But if the fight takes place in june like is tentative now, he can still have one more fight and that's it. I'd say vs cory Spinks and call it a day
I personally think they should match Miguel Cotto up against a lesser opponent. Possibly a tune-up like fight for Yuri Foreman to get a win under his belt and get more confidence.
But the Cotto - Foreman fight itself would be a great match up if they ever do meet in my opinion
Yuri has no power so he will d fine.
I just hope this is a onetime deal because there are some serious monsters in this division and Cotto is coming off two of the worst beatings yet. Campaigning at this weight won’t be good for him.
Peace.
