He just confirmed with me that he will be on a thursday night showdown on february 25th...No opponents mentioned yet but I think he's waiting for a Maidana rematch; hoping that Khan vacates...since GBP has offered maidana more money for this rematch recently...Khan has until february 12th to make a press conference...Ortiz will be the replacement fighter for Maidana...and I do think you guys are right about this being on fox net...Ortiz Vs Maidana II will be a more exiting fight than Khan Vs Maidana IMO...
Stop putting words in my mouth. When did I ever say I want to see a fighter have brain damage or get a serious injury?
If he had a good defense -- he wouldn't have to worry about taking the kind of the punishment he took during the fight. He never said he felt his life or career was on the line. He said he was not supposed to take the kind of punishment he took during the fight.
The guy quit because he felt the fight was supposed to be easier for him. He never said anything about him fearing for his life or career after the fight or post fight interview. The guy acts like a diva.
I think he didn't know what he was saying after getting his head bamboozled by those maidana right hands and the emotion with it made it sound sketchy...
Getting hurt is getting a black eye or a cut. Brain injury or death is a serious fuking injury that can ruin your life.
Someone who would lump the two together is so stunningly full of shitt that i have no words for you.
Are you also trying to say that if a boxer get's kiled in a ring that it's no ones fault but his? Are you seriously that souless?Stop putting words in my mouth. When did I ever say I want to see a fighter have brain damage or get a serious injury?

I think when you dumb it down that much you could convince any dumbass that he's a quitter.
It's more then that and in fact it's of my opinion that Boxing fan's like you are the reason that so many Boxers have died in modern boxing even though we have day before weigh ins and 8 OZ gloves.wrong person. i have been a fan of this sport for damn near 40 years. and the last thing i want to see is a fighter get seriously hurt. besides someon losing his life which is a tragedy in itself, it also hurts the sport. what i take issue with is ortiz's own words, he did not say he felt like he would die, he said i am not supposed to get beat up like that. i have the utmost respect for fighters because they have chosen a very hard profession. i have no respect for primadonnas who have done jack shit in this sport, and feel as if they are not to be hald to the same standards. ask yourself, if maidana had made that decision, and not ortiz, would he have been on a televised card his next fight out. this is the era of fabrication of stars, and we are seeing the results where fighters are not facing the toughest challenges, rather they are vacating titles in order to keep their "star power" while worthy challengers are left out in the cold because they do not have the right promoter.
as tothe point aboutweigh ins,i believethat they should go back to same day weigh ins to stop this ridiculous practice of boxers coming in 15-20 pounds heavier on fight night.
Both make good points but boxing is a sport and professionally you have to look for whats best for the athletes...the kid was only 22 and yeah he was winning the fight but he brawled and he doesnt do that in every fight he was smart enough to know he wasnt going to win so why continue the damage when he can win on a better day?
Every boxer knows the risks about boxing and knows he could possibility get hurt. Why would you be a boxer if you're afraid of getting hurt?

lets go by his own statements, he has no problems dishing out punishment, but he doesn't want to take any in return.
true champions fight through adversity, they dont quit. he was winning the fight, but not as easy as he felt he should have. you have to question his desire and his heart. until he proves different.

Because he felt he was gonna die or get seriously hurt he has no heart?
You do realize that boxing is a sport and not a street fight.Every boxer knows the risks about boxing and knows he could possibility get hurt. Why would you be a boxer if you're afraid of getting hurt?
Yes, Boxing is a man's sport and only the strongest survive. It's one thing to protect yourself at the end of your career like a lot of great boxers have done in the past compare to being a young up and coming prospect and quitting. He should be a better defensive boxer if he doesn't want to get hurt. People always talk shit about Mayweather being a boring boxer, but the guy knows how to protect himself in the ring. Be a better defensive boxer if you don't want to get hurt in the ring.
Did you see Marquez give up and say No mas when Manny knocked him down 3 times? No, he faced adversity and came back to win the majority of the rounds in the match. This is the big difference between a guy who is a great boxer with a big heart compare to a boxer who would rather give up, instead of stepping up to a challenge.
He wants to dish out punishment, but quits when someone is punishing him in the ring.
i will respectfully disagree with you on that statement. as since ortiz chose this profession, he is well aware of the inherent risks. so the other 99.9% of us out there do not even come into the equation. now my issue with ortiz is not so much the fact that he couldn't stand the heat, remember he made the statement prior to the fight that he was going to knock maidana out, but when faced with the prospect of being knocked out himself, he quit.
not only did he quit, he had the audacity to say afterwards, i am not SUPPOSED to get beaten up like that , as if he has some false sense of entitlement. that statement pissed me off more than his quitting. imo his attitude is what you get when you try to create stars, rather than have a fighter become a star. they are spoonfed, and have no idea of how to react when faced with adversity.
if he comes back and uses that experience to learn, more power to him, but no man should codone, much less make excuses for his actions that night. he must live with the consequences of his decision on that night. he needs to understand that every night will not be easy, and that champions are made on those nights when you are not at your best.
If you hate Victor because he was acting arrogent before the fight then hey I think that perfectly reasonable, but what I'm arguing against is this fan culture where boxers are expected to act like "Warriors" or "Gladiatiors". Boxers are athletes and yes it's expected that they will get hurt in the ring at one point or another but when it comes to death or brain injury thats where the dissconnect happens with boxing fans while other sports fans can make that distinction and don't make crazy demands from the athletes they support.
A boxer is expected to fight with a concussion and if they quit they are pussy ass quitters. But in football or anyother sport for that matter it a serious injury that requires the athlete "to stop playing" and is most times kept out of action for a long period of time. we currently have the federal goverment asking serious questions about concusions in Football and if someone gets a concusion in the NFL they are immidiatley kept away from contact for 2 weeks. Boxing fans will expect a boxer to fight on and that in my opinion is one of the biggest things i hate about boxing and boxing fans. thats all i'm trying to say.
Because he felt he was gonna die or get seriously hurt he has no heart?

He gave up in a moment of weakness and showed he had no heart.

Take in consideration that on the post fight interview ortiz talked out his ass he just got hit a sh!t tone amd wasnt totally there mentally amd emotionally he was hurt off that loss...i know he had a huge concussion during the fight or after
I think he would more than make up for it if he still continues and becomes a superstar regardless if he chose not to continue in "one" fight he had.
There will always be retard haters and Max Kellerman who will always mention the Maidana fight. But some of us who don't look at boxing like idiot children understand that sometimes your body just says no more and that's more important then being a warrior which in boxing case is just imaginary bullshit anyways. He gave up in a moment of weakness and showed he had no heart.
I see so because he felt his body was in danger beyond what was expected of a boxer to take he's a wimp?
No offense but 99.9% of people in this world would of quit the first time a fighter like Marcos Maidana hit them flush in the face. We forget that boxers are already a 100 times more courageous than any normal person simply because they are stepping in that ring.
Maybe you should think about that before you question someone mental toughness.

I just can't see how ortiz is going to overcome adversity after hearing his post fight interview. he lacks the toughness. he has all the tools physically to be great but mentally?? not convinced..

No thanks.
We already saw what happens when he's faced with adversity. He would rather quit instead of fighting. :bottle:

We don't know how it's like to get hit constantly by 8 ounce gloves...it's a bad fashion how he lost but hey look who boxing fans are rooting for we got James Kirkland who is in jail...Floyd that has different kids with different women and his car was used on a shoot out? But we hardly come accross a success story like the one of Ortiz...If he lost he lost and won't make the same mistake...lets look at the future of the sport and look for a super star that can keep the sport alive by doing more than just fighting...Ortiz is a decent fighter though very good power and combos...and along comes a story unlike today's rising stars...If you have heart as a human and heart as a fan you would consider not giving up on someone that went through crap and realize that boxing saved this young man's life...it's a blessing when something you like does something positive for someone else...
