Floyd vs. Williams / Berto could be illegal......

In Florida at least it would be. People that post about the Haymon conflict being "bullshit" dont know what they are talking about. Managers and promoters are different from each other in that managers have a fiduciary duty to the fighter, while promoters dont. For Floyd to fight either Williams or Berto, Haymon would most likely have to recuse his interest in one side of the fight. Here is the Florida Statute on the subject. (see 2a) 548.056 Prohibited financial interests in participant; penalties.-- (1) A member of the commission; an employee of the commission; a referee or judge licensed by the commission; or an attending physician may not have any direct or indirect financial or pecuniary interest in any participant. (2)(a) A manager, trainer, or second of any participant shall not have any direct or indirect financial or pecuniary interest in the opponent in any contest in which her or his own participant participates. (b) A participant shall not have any direct or indirect financial or pecuniary interest in her or his opponent in any contest. (3) A violation of this section is a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.

So, even if I missed the point, how does Bob Arum do it? how did King do it? How does any manager not named Haymon do it? Its simply a terrible excuse. Arum and King are "promoters", not "managers". The rules are different. And there are some managers who do it. But just because someone else might have gotten away with it, that doesnt make it any less unethical. A manager SHOULDNT represent both sides of a fight, anymore than a lawyer should argue both sides of a case. Think about it. If you were Berto or Williams, do you really want Floyds manager representing you in the negotiations for a fight with Floyd? And even though Haymon is a pretty square-dealing guy, the appearance of a conflict is unavoidable

you're missing the point. It had nothing to do with Florida. I simply used Florida law as an example of why the "Haymon conflict" is NOT bullshit, as some idiots keep saying it is. Similar language is also in H.R. 523, which is the new Federal Commission bill that Peter King and McCain are trying to pass. Its just funny to me that morons say the "Haymon conflict" is bullshit, I point out an example of a state statute that I happen to be familiar with (I also know Pennsylvania and New York also have similar laws on the books), and people STILL argue the point and say "thats only in Florida". Familiar with it or not, its still a horrible point as to why a fight can't be made. Florida is not the beginning and end of where bouts take place. you're missing the point. conflicts of interest are not exclusive to Florida dipshit. I brought the statute up because I happen to be familiar with it. Familiar with it or not, its still a horrible point as to why a fight can't be made. Florida is not the beginning and end of where bouts take place.
