Taylor to announce withdrawel from Super Six today

From Jermain Taylor's hometown paper: Source: Taylor out of Super Six By Nick Walker Tuesday, January 12, 2010 LITTLE ROCK — Jermain Taylor is down. But, for now at least, he’s not out of boxing. Little Rock’s Taylor, the former undisputed middleweight champion of the world, is expected to announce his withdrawal from the Super Six World Classic super middleweight tournament today. Taylor, 31, was knocked out by Germany’s Arthur Abraham in the 12th round of the opening fight of the tournament Oct. 17, 2009, at the O2 Arena in Berlin. Th e m ove co m e s amid speculation that Taylor might retire after losing four of his past five fights. Taylor had been expected to return to the tournament to face WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward at an unspecified location April 17. Longtime promoter Lou DiBella announced Dec. 11 that he was stepping down from Taylor’s camp because he could no longer “in good conscience” promote Taylor’s fights after the former champ’s third loss by knockout in his past fivefights. A source close to Taylor said the former champ was asking for a $1 million buyout from his Super Six contract. Taylor was reportedly scheduled to make $2 million for fighting Ward and another $2 million for facing former WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler. It’s not known if Taylor is receiving any money for stepping down or who his replacement will be. The likely candidate to replace Taylor in the tournament would be another of DiBella’s fighters, Allan Green. Showtime, which is running the tournament, had listed Green as the first alternate should any of the six boxers be unable to continue. A source indicated that Taylor would be announcing the withdrawal today and that Taylor would consider fighting again as soon as this fall. Taylor, manager Al Haymon, publicist Norman Horton, business adviser Andrew Meadors and trainer Ozell Nelson did not respond to repeated messages from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette seeking comment.

feel bad for taylor but at the same time happy because i don't want the guy to get hurt.. Bring on Bute or pavlik!!!! If you followed the sport at all, you would know that there is zero possibility of Bute or Pavlik of entering the tournament. Bika and Green are in the process of finalizing a February fight to determine which one will fight Ward in the next round.

Umm... No.. At this point Bika and especially Green would knock Taylors block off. Green vs Ward would be a good fight Taylor would be at risk of getting KO'd against Green or Bika, yes, but that's not what we're talking about. Taylor, because of his experience and boxing ability, would have been more competitive against Ward than either Green or Bika could hope to be.

I have been saying since his KO loss to Abraham that if Taylor is going to continue boxing, this was the safest move for him to extend and possibly rebuild his career, which would be extremely difficult (and potentially unsafe) to do in a high pressure, high competition environment like the Super Six. And on another note, Ward is going to absolutely destroy either Green or Bika. Worse than he would have done to the current version of Taylor. Umm... No.. At this point Bika and especially Green would knock Taylors block off. Green vs Ward would be a good fight

Good, for the guy's life he needs to get out. He'll be a vegetable if he keeps going, Froch or Kessler or Ward would destroy him and keep him in the hospital.
