While Pac v Clottey will be an interesting fight, I can't helpt but think it will do "poor" numbers PPV wise and live gate. Pac vs Cotto filled the MGM Grand and had 1.25 million ppv. But that's two countries with huge boxing fan bases and sizeable communities in the US. What does Clottey bring? There are not a lot of Ghanians in the US. Clottey has never been a headliner on PPV while Cotto, Hatton, and de la Hoya have been. Nobody knows Clottey but hardcore boxing fans. I'm guessing 400k PPV. There won't be a Pac v Clottey 24/7. How are they going to sell and market this fight? The fight will be in the stadium but I can't see Pac v Clottey selling more than Pac v past opponents. I'm predicting the numbers will be poor.
I think the drugs issue will hurt Manny a lot , the PPV will be ordinary , the other point is if the PPV does do really well then Mannys bullshit court case will take a hit because it can be argued that Manny got more gain out of the publicity than he lost .
Interesting to see the fallout of all what just went dowm .
If Pacquaio is the biggest draw in boxing as his fans on this site believe he is, then the Pac-Clottey fight should draw at least one million PPV. After all, Mayweather drew one million in a figth against a guy who has never drawn on PPV (Marquez), so Pac should be able to do the same type of number since he is sooooo much more popular than Mayweather (and that applies even if Mayweather fights on the same night). However, I agree with yo. I think this fight will do poorly and his fans will have five excuses already made beforehand (ex: not enough time to promote the fight; conflicting PPV with Mayweather, bad date, fallout from the Mayweather/Pac debacle, etc...)
It all depends on the circumstances. If HBO puts on Pacquiao-Clottey 24/7 and they/Top Rank spend $10-20 million in advertising/promotions. Then we'll be able to compare it to Pacquiao/Cotto or Mayweather/Marquez. Both events had the full force of the HBO marketing machine behind them.
I'm not expecting HBO to pull out all the stops for either fight, no matter which fight they choose.
People can't just pretend that all fights are marketed similarly. If HBO picks the Pacquiao fight and Golden Boy has to stage Mayweather on their own, Pacquiao fans can't claim victory over Mayweather when the buy rates are higher because Manny has the HBO machine behind him and Floyd didn't. And vice versa.

I am guessing around 800K. 24/7 can increase the buy rate. They will probably make CLottey look like an animal, and have him shirtless most of the time.

I think it'll fail miserably. Same with Mayweather's fight. I think most casual fans will skip these fights thinking that the next one is Pac vs. Mayweather.
Well, the results of this fight is gonna affect the negotiation process with Mayweather. If he does significantly less than Mayweather, then we're looking at 60-40 for Mayweather.
In other words... no fight.
If it's an HBO PPV with a full run of 24/7 episodes, then it will do 600K+. That show pushes PPVs to another level and is great at building awareness among people who don't follow the sport closely. Clottey isn't a big name, but people are familiar with Pacquiao and he's drawn a lot of new fans over the past 13 months because of his style.
It also depends how closely the Cowboys and Jerry Jones work with the publicity campaign for this fight. Are they just involved on a local level to sell tickets or will they work on a national level to draw in PPV buyers? If the Cowboys make the Super Bowl, and Bob works with Jerry to spread awareness of the fight at such a high profile event, that probably pushes it to another level.
There's the fall out from the whole blood testing controversy and the Mayweather deal falling apart. I think everyone is disappointed, but there isn't as much outrage among casual fans as there is among hardcore boxing fans. It'll be a small percentage, but there will be people who tune-in out of "Is this guy on steroids?" curiosity.
I don't care and neither should anybody who isn't getting a cut of the proceeds.

Well, I think you have to consider the undercard as well. Bob Arum is planning on loading it with big Mexican names, so he's banking on a big Mexican turn out at the gate as well for the PPV buys.
Also, it depends heavily on who Mayweather will be fighting and what his undercard will look like.
In addition, it depends on who HBO will side with. I think whowever HBO sides with will have better PPV buys
Got to give it to Arum, king of ethnic pandering.
If that's the case though, with all the mexican fighters, can we really say Pac is the draw?? There are rumours that Margarito will be there. That will definitely add to the gate. Pac true drawing power will not be measured.
Exactly, this fight will reflect Pac's drawing power more accurately than his last three fights.
I think the PPV's won't go over 850k for either Pac or Mayweather and the live gate won't go over 30k fans at the Dallas Stadium.
Too many bad sentiments from the boxing public right now for either of these fighters to sell without them fighting each other.
