A negotiation between the promoter Frank Warren and PR Best Boxing Promotions paid off yesterday and the mandatory defense of Roman 'Rocky' Martinez of his WBO junior lightweight title agaisnt English Rick Burns to be held on the Island but the date of 27 February might change said Peter Rivera, vice president of PR Best.
"We agreed and we should not go to auction. Now is deciding when is the date and place. There had been Feb. 27 but we can not shoot all the bullets. We are checking that angle and it is uncertain whether it will be in Bayamon or elsewhere, "he said.
That night of 27 allegedly , the bayamon Wilfredo 'Papito' Vazquez and Filipino Marvin Sonson will fight for the WBO bantamweight crown vacated by Juan Manuel Lopez.
on the other hand...
Meanwhile, Javier Bustillo, president of Universal Promotions, requested that the winner between Vazquez and Sonsona gives an opportunity to his fighter Victor 'Vitiño' Fonseca, who is fifth in the OMB 122.
"He's ready to fight for the world title. My position is that the winner should fight with Vitiño. We would like vazquez to win but vitiño beats them both, so it doesn't matter"
Burns is a good boxer skill wise .It's a quality opportunity for him .I see this fight a bit similar to Dunne Poosawatt only Poon's record looks tougher than Martinez's .Hopefully burns doesn't stand and trade and uses his boxing skills .I think Burns has a decent chance because he said he ain't going to do what Cook done and stand and trade .Martinez has a good left uppercut on him that's the punch he floored Cook with first.
I've been to see Burns fight before. He's a good little fighter but I can't see him beating Martinez. Good luck to him though, it would be great if he won. If the fight was in Scotland I'd definitely get tickets. Hopefully Warren can push that.
