Name That Boxer Trivia/Riddles Thread! Pretty self explanatory. Write a short excerpt with hints as to who you are. Example:
"I fight like a turtle and my real name rhymes with Donald." Who am I?
Answer: Winky Wright.
Okay that was easy right? I'll start us off:
"I was scheduled for a "sweet" welter weight fight when I was stopped in 1 by a shower door!" Who am I?
"I was once the most recognized athlete in my country, I suffered what many thought was a hometown decision in the finals of the Olympic games, I had some really good backing in my pro career, my manager was also a very recognized athlete but he was from another country." Who am I?
That's it!
Someone already got that one.
Here's a new one:
"It wasn't quite Sherwood Forest, but some people thought of me as Robin Hood after I emerged victorious."
roberto duran?
Bob Sheridan. The Colonel. KFC. Nice.
That's it!
It's Andre "Son Of God" Ward from OAKland

Sixto Escobar? That's the only first country world champion I could think of that relates to numbers.
You are correct.
And another guess on yours - Harold Lederman.
I wasn't the best fighter ever from my country, but was its first world champion. If my name was taken as a literal description, you'd think I'd have an extra one (or actually two) of these.

I imagine the "secret recipes" is a very telling clue.. can't figure it out though.
Don King?
If not, then it's most likely a boxing announcer, in which case I'll guess Larry Merchant.
You're both right in those senses. It's not Larry Merchant though (or Don King).
Not Bob Arum.
It's especially tough if you don't know the guy because Google won't help you much with the way I phrased it. Gotta use the ol' noggin for this one. I wanna test your knowledge not research skills :p
Here it is again with the clues in bold:
"Whether you've heard me or not. I've been involved in boxing's biggest fights for the past 40 years, but please don't ask me for any secret recipes. You have me confused with another gentleman."
Maybe I should change my name to The Riddler :lol1:
