Why don't the lower weights get exposure like the mid-higher weights?

I personally and alot of hardcore fans like myself would watch all of these guys but as far as the networks its their money and as an investment its a risk. I would hope that the casual fan would take the time to watch some great fights at lower weights but I have my doubts.....at the end of the day its what will sell to the casual fan that determines who gets attention in the boxing world or not. That's very true.

A couple things one a bigger is better mentality watching the biggest toughest guys is what some people want to see. Another is that some people like knockout the higher up you go in weight there is a much higher probability of someone getting sickeningly knocked out, now the lighter guys throw more punches but some people do not really like watching two dudes throw 1500 punches each and no one getting even close to hurt. Also in America anyways people are pretty big on average so not to many Americans are fighting in those classes and that just creates an overall lack of interests since it is hard to really make a connection with a fighter. I really do not like watching anything below 118-122 unless it is a fight between two superb competitiors. I was going to say something like that. I was going to ask is it maybe because their are rarely any Americans fighting in the lower weights? I doubt it's because of KO's. I mean just look at Darchinyan vs Donaire, that was a nasty KO. You also have Roman Gonzalez who has a high KO ratio but it's just too bad he's at minimumweight and I'm sure if he goes up, his power will decrease. The man is only 5'2", you can't possibly carry all your power up in weight being that small. Look at Joan Guzman too. He was very powerful in the lower weights. Use to KO everyone then he went up in weight now he's little bit feather fisted. So i doubt it's lack of power. I think it is lack of Americans.

Its not fair but who is to blame? I guess fans because that is where the money comes from. If more ppl took the time out to take a look then these guys could stay at the weights they belong at. How about if they get some exposure from HBO and the other big boxing channels? The public doesn't even know about them because they can't see them, imo. I thought the Cornelious Locke vs Orlando Cruz Featherweight fight in the Numero Uno undercard was a hell of a fight while it lasted and i'm sure even casual fans would have liked it. The lower weight just need more exposure but they don't get it for whatever reason.

Well also i think that they dont as much attention because the majority of people wanna see big punches and KO's you dont get to that a lot with the smaller guys they through a 1000 punches and it goes to a decision... I think they are fun to watch and should get more attention but thats just how it is....

Rigondeaux vs. Hasegawa. Please god....one day. You wanna see the Ousama earn another 4 round KO huh? lol. Hasegawa might as well be named the most dominant active champ. Hasn't loss since '01 and been champ since '05. Minimumweight-Featherweight have any of these guys ever get payed in the 8 digits? or at least more than $5Mill? Why don't they get exposure? They're are exciting to watch. Are they being discriminated because of their size? And are they forced to go up in weight and lose their power and drop in overall skill just to look for bigger pay checks? Discuss. Most of those guys live in countries where 5mill can get turned into 60,000,000. Easily. Thats probably why none of the lower weight champions demand money to fight.

Roman Gonzales vs Ivan Calderon would be interesting. Roman Gonzales that's my boy. I am a huge fan of his. Him vs Calderon could be made late in the year. But, at the same time I want to see fight Raul Garcia, Brian Viloria, and Giovanni Segura. Those would be exciting entertaining fights.

I think the money that you talk about are usually only generated with the help of casual fans... and casual fans want to see brutal KO's... doesn't mean it can't happen but you know... That's why most like nothing more then a good heavyweight fight... heavy guys beatin each other... every punch can change the outcome... it's simply human interest in destruction I guess...

I know Carbajal-Gonzalez both made a million each and was the main event of a PPV fight that did pretty good. That is the only fight at the lower weight-class that casual fans was interested in. I don't understand why the lower weight-classes don't get no attention? There are a lot of good who are willing to fight each other.

You guys think it's fair that these guys have to go up in weight and basically lose a lot of power and speed just to make more money? Then when they do get exposure it's on an undercard of this huge PPV and it's a no-hoper vs a star which ends up being a one-sided beat down all the time.

It seems to me, just looking at Ring Magazine ratings, that many of the smaller weights (like strawweight) involve many fighters from the Far East. That has something to do with it as well as just the general interest in the higher weight classes. For whatever reason people always like the bigger fighters. I've never really cared, but I'm not the majority. I wish they had more exposure here though, I'd definitely tune in.
