Am I the only one who think that Vitali was only trying to survive at the 20 last seconds of the last round ?? To me, Lennox was getting better as the fight was going on. A younger version of Lewis would have dominate Vitali
you considered that a great win? Lewis was lucky ass hell that the bout was stopped, because he was getting worked by vitali. Luckiest win off all time yes...greatest HW win of all time...hell no!!!!!!!
Yea no shit, LL is scared of Vitali thats we he turned down a 20mil dollar rematch.
you only quoted half of my sentence to make my statement seem that way. It's easy to spin peoples comments....hell the media makes tons of money off of it.
No one in their right mind would say the fight was stopped because Vitali was outworking Lennox, and If you re-read my reply, you would see that I was making two seperate points and not tying those two together.
I felt that Lewis was lucky that it was stopped (one point) and stated why he was lucky (because he was getting outworked and would have eventually gotten UD if the fight continued), and not that the fights stoppage was a result of vitali's dominance. If you would have quoted my whole reply then its clear thats what I meant.
I mean its no point, because I see your gonna believe what you want, so this is my last reply on this.
I found that quote in it's entirety misleading then, if you didn't mean that then sorry aight. I can see what your saying about that fight. I just personally don't think it's luck with these things. I mean was Khan lucky when MAB got cut and TKO'd? OK Khan was dominating more but it was the 4th round, as early as possible, to not get a no contest. Maybe MAB woulda wised up. Was Calzaghe lucky Roy Jones got badly cut? Same applies as he was dominating more than Lennox was of course.
But, what I'm saying is these things happen in boxing. If your getting hit too much and get cut, then in boxing you risk losing. You make your own luck sometimes.
Vitali was rocking Lennox's head back but couldn't finish the job, bottom line. Lennox was getting wise, landing his own bombs more, had a second wind and the fight was going his way, whereas Vitali was running on adrenaline and was fading slightly as it went on, I thought. It'll always be a contentious fight though with varying opinions.
Yes you did, you didn't say outworked, but you said the below:
If you didn't mean that then fine, but that's what you said, so don't kick off as if you were being mis represented, that quote is accurate, and it was fair to remind you the thread title was best HW win of the decade, not all time as you say. So that's hardly a dumb reply. You made a dumb initial post and I'm having to re-iterate that to you. Ok. Chill winston.
You didn't imply well, just say that then. It's a common critique it was a lucky win. I don't think it was really. What happened happened. You can look at it another way, Vitali threw almost everything he had and still couldn't KO an old out of shape Lennox, and instead got progressively hurt himself.
Oh, and I'm a reasonable Lennox fan but not major. So don't put me in some groupie box or something, I'm just trying to be objective and discuss the topic at hand. :boxing:

Lewis was 37, that's not old for a heavyweight. Vitali is 38, came back after a 4 year layoff and is still dominating.
Quitali dominating only makes Lewis look better.
Lennox Lewis defeated every man he ever faced professionally(including Quitali), so his career is complete.
Quitali on the other hand has to live with the fact that he quit on his stool against Byrd and that he failed against an overweight, bloated Lewis. Quitali at his best was still not enough to match Lennox at his worst. And that will be Quitalis legacy.
Assuming it had gone the distance....and i say Assuming because you cant be sure Lennox wouldnt have knocked him out or vice versa. It would have been close on the cards. I dont like Lewis but ive watched that fight.....loads of times and each time i feel Vitali was blowing and was getting hurt by Lewis' shots whereas his were landing but not as effective.
Its tough, i wouldnt say best heavyweight win of the decade there is a lot of competition for that.
I feel Lennox was out of shape, had underestimated Vitali and yet by round 5 he was gaining the upper hand, and like i say i wasnt his biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination. Who would have won a rematch it would have been very interesting to have seen but sadly we will never find out.
I never said that it was stopped due to vitali outworking lennox. What a dumb ass reply back to my comment.

I implying that he was lucky, in a sense, because that freak accident in which lennox lewis' thumb caused the horrible cut, eventually lead to the fight being stopped. Sh!t like that never happens in boxing..so yeah he was lucky in that sense.
Vitali was working Lewis and lennox had a few nice rights, only because Vitali clearly couldnt see those punches comming due to the cut. That cut never happens and Lewis doesnt win. Its over and it doesnt matter anyway, but to call that a great win, and even worse, one of the greatest wins is fukkin stupid as hell. Next you guys are gonna say Byrds win over Vitali was one of chris' greatest wins. :nonono:

1. Lewis was 37, that's not old for a heavyweight. Vitali is 38, came back after a 4 year layoff and is still dominating.
2. Before the fight, Lewis said he was very motivated, in good shape and wanted to keep fighting for a long time.
Lewis was coming off the KO win over Tyson. In the Lewis/Tyson post fight interview Lewis stated "I'm like fine wine, I get better with age".
Vitali dominated Lewis and scared him into retirement. That's a FACT!
1. You are the guy who REPEATEDLY says that 36 year old holyfield was, and i quote "old and shot" when lewis beat him
2. He was the fattest of his career, officially, thats a fact
The fight was not stopped because of Vitali out working Lennox you dufus, it was stopped as he was severely injured from Lennox's punches, and was losing that round badly also. The thread clearly says best HW win of the decade as-well, not all time. You have issues with fact and fiction.
A less out of shape Lennox would be KO'd, riiight.
I never said that it was stopped due to vitali outworking lennox. What a dumb ass reply back to my comment. I also like how you quoted half of my sentence to make it seem I was implying that.
Since you have no reading comprehension skills let me elaborate:
I implying that he was lucky, in a sense, because that freak accident in which lennox lewis' thumb caused the horrible cut, eventually lead to the fight being stopped. Sh!t like that never happens in boxing..so yeah he was lucky in that sense. Lewis was showing signs of fatigue and Yes he is very lucky the fight was stopped, because if not he would have gotten UD'd.
Vitali was working Lewis and lennox had a few nice rights, only because Vitali clearly couldnt see those punches comming due to the cut. That cut never happens and Lewis doesn't win.

This photo here demonstrates the disparity between the current era and Lennox's era.
Vitali is arguably the best Heavyweight in boxing right now, but when he went up against an elderly man of the previous era he got pizza faced! Lennox was an absolute badass.
Lewis was almost 38 years old when they fought, but what if the roles were reversed?
Imagine what would happen if the Vitali who slopped around against Kevin Johnson faced a quick prime 31 year old Lennox Lewis? Itd be a 2 round massacre! Vitali would probably die in the ring.
But couldve, wouldve shouldve doesnt matter. In reality Lennox already defeated Vitali by TKO. Its History. Lennox defeated every opponent he every faced professionally, and the Klitschkos have not.
I have said this many, many times, Vitali got an old man in the ring, and couldnt take advantage of it.
Lewis didnt retire because he was "scared and intimidated" by Vitali, calling an atg like lewis a coward is reprehensable, and if he really was a coward, he'd never have rematched rahman would he, because Rahman and Mcall both hurt lewis WAY more than prime vitali did!

lol at this retarded Lewis nuthugger.
Unlike Lewis, the iron chinned Vitali was never hurt in the fight, he took that huge uppercut and was unphased, he immediately came right back with his own power shots and stunned Lewis again.
He looks hurt to me

After the fight, klitschko looked like a hideous beast, whereas lewis looked good like always!
Losing on cuts is always unsatisfactory. I still dont think ive seen this fight whole. I hear conflcting stories. Some say Vitali would have won if he didnt get cut. And some say, including LL that he was overtaking and getting second wind.
But it was a valuable win nonetheless
Vitali's eye was fukked and the doctor chose to stop the fight. I think I read that he could've had permanent eye damage if they let the fight continue.

lewis was smart to retire vitaly would have kod lennox in a rematch
