Joshua Clottey -vs- Luis Collazo Who wins? This would be a very competitive fight between two guys really needing that extra push to break out. How does everyone see this playing out? Poll to follow.
Collazo UD, CLotteys more of a defensive counter puncher whos too technical, and wont let his punches go enough !!
Collazo's a slick fighter who can throw loads of punches in every round, and would rack up points, i think COllazo's an underrated fighter !!
i cant believe people think this would be so close..collazo really isnt anything special..he would get wrecked by clottey. clottey would be able to take rounds off against collazo simply because collazo isnt cotto or margarito. people mention that clottey fades (which i think is exaggerated) but collazo is known for severely gassing. clottey would wear him dwon by about the 8th round and would likely stop collazo in around th 10th round.
styles make fights, collazo is a decent fighter
Good matchup. Normally I probably would favor Clottey because he has been a little bit more active and appears the stronger of the two based on recent matches. I'm not sure how he would handle Collazo's unorthodox stance, he did ok with Judah. But neither fighter has fought since June and this would be a good win for either. Make it happen
HBO want to really feature either fighter. No way will we be seing this matchup anytime soon. We're more likely to see one of them against Margarito.. which I must admit would of course also be very exciting.

maybe not..but look what happened when collazo faced a proven elite fighter (mosley) he got his ass whooped to the tenth power..clottey is atleast a level above collazo. cotto is hard for anybody to hit when hes dancing around like he did in the later rounds against clottey..people think that clottey's punch count just dropped off. it was more the fact that cotto was running. he did the same thing vs pac and mosley..he isnt easy to hit when he does that. collazo just doesnt have what it takes to beat clottey..maybe win a couple of rounds but he is not on par with clottey in the skills department or the durability department.
I just don't think Clottey is in the business of blowing a fighter like Collazo out of the water. He might edge a bunch of rounds but he doesn't have the footspeed or finishing instinct to really put Collazo in major danger of stoppage or blowout. Clottey fights nothing like Mosley and I have little doubt Mosley would also UD Clottey if they fought. It's too bad this really is a fight fans fight and likely never going to see the light of day cause it would be a great way to shed some clarity on the WW division.
Even if he did wear him down by around the 8th. Which sounds fairly similar to the progression of the Cotto fight. He'd begin easing on the gas. No way Clottey pushes him all fight. Clottey is not some volume punching bull dozer. He's an accurate puncher who throws in sporadic bunches. In reality Clottey does more stalking and walking down than he does actual punching. IMO Clottey doesn't have any major achievement that really proves he's a major class above Collazo. maybe not..but look what happened when collazo faced a proven elite fighter (mosley) he got his ass whooped to the tenth power..clottey is atleast a level above collazo. cotto is hard for anybody to hit when hes dancing around like he did in the later rounds against clottey..people think that clottey's punch count just dropped off. it was more the fact that cotto was running. he did the same thing vs pac and mosley..he isnt easy to hit when he does that. collazo just doesnt have what it takes to beat clottey..maybe win a couple of rounds but he is not on par with clottey in the skills department or the durability department.

It's a while since I've seen the fight, but I remember Clottey being pretty consistently aggressive against Corrales*, simply because every time he threw something it would land. It's when he can't land his shots with any definite effect that he seems to mentally shut down, a la Cotto. If Collazo gets stunned early I can see Clottey pouring it on and start to dominate. Collazo's got great heart though, and would be in the fight every step of the way.
*That was a brutal fight for Corrales by the way. Really thought the ref or corner should have stopped it at some point.
Collazo is a welterweight. Corrales was not. Collazo would present a very legitimate threat.

cmon man, Luis Collazo isnt the strongest biggest ww out there so Collazo by stoppage?? Man thats a long shot.
I know Collazo can take a punch but I dont think he gets past Clottey at all. COllazo doesnt have the power to hurt Clottey, it will looks something similar to say oh Zab Judah vs Joshua Clottey.
Battle of the Spoilers. Two guys that will never be dominant champions but will give anyone a tough fight. No doubt it would end in a controversial decision. I'd give the edge slightly to Clottey.
Would be a great match-up...hope to see it in the future
Would've been nice undercard to Mosley/Berto
They really need to do this fight. I can't imagine Clottey fighting 12 full rounds which means he'll always be in a toss up of a fight. Collazo is tricky and fairly durable so this definitely won't be an easy fight for Clottey. Have to assume however Clottey would come in as the betting favorite at around -200 though.
agree with Its Ovah - this is clotteys fight to lose
he has the tools to beat collazo, i think clottey can take off rounds off vs collazo because collazo is not really a body puncher.
imo its clottey by dec.
collazo ud collazo to hungry never gives up and also because clottey who always as a lull in a fight when he seems to have a fight in the bag eg cotto and margarito
Very tough to say. Clottey's tendencies to take rounds off might hurt him if it goes to the scorecards. Then again, he is capable of keeping his foot on the gas if he gets some success early on. It's when the fight is close or he's not getting through with shots that he becomes frustrated and seems to shut down. Clottey's fight to lose, in my opinon.
