from 92 to 08, the USA has only had 16 medalists.
Why the decline?
When you look at years like 84, when just about he WHOLE team won gold and they had 11 total medalists and when you look at 76 where 7 boxers got medals (5 gold). Then you look at 88 and the USA won another 8 medals.
But between 92-08, the USA has only had 16 medalists
thoughts??
I think it's a combination of things.
1. As mentioned already, boxing is getting bigger in other countries.
2. Most of the really gifted, athletic kids go into other sports now like football or basketball.
And maybe the US amateur system hasn't adapted well to how the Olympics are scored now with the punch per point rule.
yea, I can really see this being a key factor bro.
The gifted athletes are barely aware of the sport of boxing anymore. Football, Basketball, etc, are much bigger sports now than what they used to be. Kids have more choices, and when they have more choices, they won't be going to the nearest boxing gym, they'll be heading to where their schools intend to have the sport they want shoved down their throats.

cuban olympic boxers >>>> american olympic boxers.
fact.
yea.... My pops you used to always tell me how tough it was fighting a Cuban boxer. He fought a Cuban before but he lost to him. I'll have to get the specifics but I agree with you, the Cuban's are ALWAYS tough.
