Out of three who's more knowledgeable in that ring? Who could get away with having no one in there corner?
It's got to be Bernard Hopkins He can fight without anyone in his corner.
Then Floyd Mayweather close by.
Hopkins or Mayweather.
James Toney is actually quite one dimensional if his style does not work against you.
Did you ever watch him as middleweight? He was far from one dimensional.
As far as boxing IQ goes, Hopkins without a doubt. Few people in boxing history know more about this sport than BHop does.
Good Argument. But I think Nazim more important to Hopkins.
How about the fact that Toney Basically trained himself in his prime. Had interchangeable trainers.
Hop was doing his thign before Nazim came. having the priviledge to train at upper darby (where they do most their training) i can tell you, bhop runs his own ship man.
Bouie Fischer was the only trainer he had who actually gave him a strategy in the ring. Nazim, what people don't realize, is more of a great conditioning coach than an actual trainer. He will get you in the shape of your life. Bhop can do more of what he normally does with nazim in his corner, because of the great camp. Not because of the great advice in the corner.
Nard will always fight nards fight.. wether it's Freddie or Nazim in his corner.
Good ass question I know the answer aint Tyson.. Id take Hopkins though he is a trainer within himself and would school both Toney and Mayweather in the ring or sparring!
I'd say Hopkins, then mayweather then toney.
The reason I say hopkins is because floyd relies heavily on his reflexes and natural athleticism, hopkins doesn't have nearly the amount of natural abilities that floyd does, so hopkins has too be trickier/craftier/smarter to win his battles.
Toney has great ring IQ as well, but he's shown a few instances of lack of judgment or bad decision making in the ring whereas I never really see Floyd or Hopkins do anything really stupid.
Nice post. I agree with this.
All three fighters have amazing boxing IQ's though.

I agree. You can't put it much better than that.

The all got a lot of fights under their belt, so i'd say it's pretty even. the question should be who has the better shoulder roll.
Just because Toney is undiscplined and at times unfocussed, doesnt mean he hasn't got a high boxing IQ. Its hard to use all your skills if you are vastly overweight. You are confusing lack of discipline with IQ and they are not the same thing. Toney defence is far superior to Mayweathers, have you seen his fights with Barkely and Robinson?
I think Mayweather and Toney's defense are comparable.
I still think you can make a good argument for Toney having the best Ring IQ.
Mayweathers Footwork > Toneys
easy
Mayweathers defense > Toneys
the dude lost to the very one dimensional Sam Peter by the scores of judge: 110-118 ---110-118---- 108-119
lol..thats not a high IQ IMO...losing to a 1 dimensional fighter?

Im just saying that shows u how smart he is....he had to take steroids...even with all his skills and his smarts he felt the need to cheat to compete...thats not having a high IQ IMO
Just because he made wrong decisions outside of the ring doesn't mean it takes away from his knowledge inside the ring.
