It seems like almost every poster on here picking Berto to beat Shane Mosley are fans of Floyd. And we pretty much know why this is. I actually think this will be an easier fight for Mosley than Margarito was. But just remember that the people who are saying otherwise can't have it both ways. You can't talk all this shit about how Berto is going to beat Mosley like saying Mosley doesn't know how to deal with technical fighters, and then when Mosley destroys him you automatically discredit the win. And I'll probably bump this thread after the fight is over with.
You too late Ice.
Mr boat buyer already can't fight SSM cuz he did roids 7 yrs ago.
"Pac is on roids" too, but they desperate for that fight.
remember he can't sell ppvs or tickets neither.
This is a good fight. I pick mosley only because he has the better chin of the two. Berto is a good little fighter but his resume is a big ?. He has more to prove than mosley does.
I see this entire setup a bit differently than most of you it seems like. My main concern right now is the sport of Boxing as a whole as far as mainstream society is concerned.
What I mean is, the super fight is coming. Mayweather-Pacquiao. It's already set to break all kinds of PPV records with all of us loyal fans plus a slew of indifferent people already determined to witness this stellar event.
Okay so as far as Boxing is concerned, what's next?
Mayweather-Mosley some of you say, or even Mayweather-Williams for the dreamers. Those sound nice and all to us loyal fans, but what about all those indifferent people?
This fight coming up is bringing a lot of needed attention back to this great sport. An attention level that really hasn't been seen since Mike Tyson was everywhere you looked. So with that in mind, what does Mayweather-Mosley, really do for the sport as a whole? It could be a good fight, sure. But even if it is, that's all it will be, one fight.
As we know, Floyd takes his time between bouts, and isn't a general crowd pleasing fighter. Therefore he has not been and will not be a household name like that of Tyson or Leonard were.
Age plays a factor in this as well. Shane Mosley, Oscar De La Hoya, Roy Jones Jr, Bernard Hopkins. These are names that generated conversation at the table in the 90s and early 2000s. But that was then and this is now. Mosley is about 38 I believe (correct me if I'm wrong), Roy and Bhop are pushing 40 as well, and Oscar is flat out done.
My point from all of this is for those of you who are like me, who actually care about Boxing's place in the pecking order of sports in this world, how can you possibly keep harping on the fighters that ARE on the way out, while ignoring the youth which is with whom Boxing may rise again?
So all that said, I'm a fan of Boxing, and I want Andre Berto to whoop SSM's ass so that he can earn a fight against a Miguel Cotto or a Ricky Hatton even and then if he could win that, he would be due a shot at whoever wins Mayweather-Pacquiao.
There has to be something going forward that people can really point to and say "O I know that name, who/when is he fighting again you say?" on a consistent basis. With the Super 6 tying up the Super Mid-LightHeavy division for a couple years, and the Klitschko's still kickin' ass and taking names, the WW division is where Boxing is at its hottest right now. I see no need to let that fire burn out so quickly come March 14*.
No he doesn't, so I could only dream
Two counterpunchers who only look crowd pleasing against offensive minded fighters doesn't sound like a good fight to me. But Martinez could probably give Floyd problems and possibly even beat him.
Floyd-Martinez? I love it... But...
Do you think Martinez bring enough money to bring Floyd to the table?
No he doesn't, so I could only dream
The good news is,
Unlike the build up to Oscar and Hatton, Mayweather isn't talking about retirement. If Shane is that dude, I'm game because I'd rather Mayweather do that then leave the game. Honestly though, I'd be craving for Mayweather vs. Sergio Martinez @ 154 say he beats Pacquiao. I'd LOVE to see that.

I can see that. But, I think if Berto beats both Margarito who was viewed as the #1 WW and Berto in dominate fashion. It would show that Shane still has a lot. And, maybe show that he is a different fight with Richardson as his trainer. I would agree with what you saying if it is a close fight. But, if Shane dominates Berto destroys him. Then IMO he is the best WW in the planet. That is just my opinion though.

That's all good but I don't see the competitveness in that match. It'll definitely enhance his legacy though.

What if Mosley dominates Berto? That would be 2 top 10 WWs who Mosley would destroy. That fight still wouldn't be you cup of tea?

I've been saying this for a very long time now. I'm not too interested in seeing Floyd dominate a fighter who no longer has the legs to catch up. You want to call for that, go ahead. Not my cup of tea. The only pleasure I'll get is saying, "I told you so!".
You putting points on Peterson

This is a comment by someone who is a fan of a certain fighter more so than the sport. If Mosley beat Berto and unified the titles, that would be the best time for Mayweather to jump at the opportunity to fight him before the WBC stripped him. No offense, but that's a dumb ass post. Mosley-Mayweather for the undisputed title would be huge even after Mayweather beat Pac, and it would do a shit load for Floyd's legacy.

Completely agree
I need to find someone to bet with
Yea bro I already got like 3 bets going. DC fight fan is pretty big on Peterson. So he might bet you.
Also try Dominicano soy. I think he is going for Peterson in this fight.
i think it will be a close fight,if the same mosley turns up who kod margo then bertos is in for a good beating and if the mosley who just scraped past mayorga turns then he is in big trouble, for me it all depends on what ssm has left in the tank:439:
Why I tend to lean towards Berto, although I honestly don't care. Shane vs. Mayweather to me is a waste of time.

Who are these people who have hidden agendas? I only come across a handful of them and ignore them cos they're obviously idiots. You should do the same. I'm a Floyd fan and would love to see him fight Mosley- It's too early to say anything yet though. If Floyd-Pac is close there's probably gonna be rematch and I see Mosley-Berto as a close entertaining fight. Why do you think it will be easier than the Margs fight? It's tough to get any easier than winning every round en route to a devastating KO. Berto has handspeed and can box better than Margs. I'd say it'll be competitive.
What do you think about the Bradley-peterson fight?
There has been and there will be other fights that I will be more excited about than that one. It's a guaranteed distance fight at a more elite level than Diaz-Malinaggi. I want to stay on topic though.
