HBO is working on a March 6 card that it hopes will feature junior welterweight titleholders Devon Alexander and Amir Khan of England defending their belts in separate fights, although it is not a tournament situation in which the winners would fight. HBO hopes to see Alexander face Marcos Maidana, an interim titlist who is Khan's mandatory challenger but would go for Alexander's version of the title. If Victor Ortiz wins his HBO fight Saturday, he could potentially challenge Khan. The details are still being sorted out, but Kevin Cunningham, Alexander's trainer and manager, is anxious to nail things down. "It looks like our fight will be the week before Mayweather-Pacquiao, the biggest fight in boxing , so it brings even more excitement fighting the week before that fight. It's a great opportunity. We can't wait to sign a contract and go to camp and get the game plan started on whoever we'll be fighting. They throw a name out there, we'll take 'em. It doesn't matter to us."
Khan-Ortiz would basically determine the next boxing superstar. Toss up fight, Ortiz is real good, but I'd be leaning towards Khan because Victor doesn't use his jab as much as he'd have to, to offset Khan.
Alexander-Maidana is a toss up, Alexander would try to make it a boxing match and Maidana would have to make it a brawl. I'm leaning towars Alexander because of his boxing skills, but Maidana is a freak.
ortiz brutally knocks khan out in 3 rounds max!!! ortiz has sick power sick speed and under rated chin!!!
khan has better punch resistance at 140 and he has the mental edge of defeating ortiz ableit in the amatuers, khan has over rated power but great boxing skills and great speed
but i see ortiz being able to land and when he does khan wont be able to recover be a sick tko for ortiz and i would be betting with real money BIG on an ortiz stoppage victory
maidana alexander would be a good clash of styles but i see maidana outwanting him and could possibley get a late tko!!
khan v. ortiz = grudge match (khan KOed ortiz in the ams)
alexander v maidana = sets up the winner w/ the winner of khan/ortiz.
I like it
khan didnt ko ortiz, the bout was stopped due to his point advantage passing 20 pts.... hardly a KO
This would be great boxing.
Khan vs Ortiz is the one for me. I cant really separate these two guys. I like both Khan and Ortiz there styles are very exciting. Also there amateur bout which Khan won makes this that bit more interesting. I'm sure Ortiz is very capable of knocking out khan, and can probably match him for speed skill and power, so i think id give the edge to Ortiz.
Alexander vs Maidana is a great match up as well, but for me Ortiz and Khan is the big one.
Dammit man I posted this earlier in the day! To early I suppose :( I think it's a great card and it'd be awesome to see the best in jr welterweight fighting
No one see the problem with the date? No way is Khan fighting the week before Pacquiao. Freddie Roach can only do so much and I can't see him being able to train two fighters for two extremely difficults bouts at the same time.
Having said that, I love the sound of this and I hope it's true.
It won't be a problem for roach to train khan and pacman at the same time, as he has done it before. Rather it would be better because roach wants to use khan as a sparring partner for pacmans preperation against money may. If this does go through it would be epic. Khan-Ortiz already have fought in the amatuers where khan came out stronger by stopping him, so that adds a bit of flavour towards the fight. Maidana-alexander could also be a cracker.
One cant take a punch the other wont take a punch.Seriously tho Khan Ortiz would be a great fight. Both have good skills and good power and both also have big question marks, Id love to see it.

I dont think it would be that much of a problem for roach, ortiz is a southpaw which is good concidering khan will be sparring with manny, its the last week of pacs training so just tapering down, nothing major. I dont get why theyd take on ortiz instead of maidana though which is a more winnable fight. Ortiz has good skills and power with both hands, either way if its maidana or ortiz, well know if khan has what it takes chin wise. Roach knows ortiz pretty well and has been at the wild card for training a year or two ago. Both roach and khan were ringside for ortiz maidana as well. Would love to see this happen. I think we'll know more after the ortiz fight this weekend, am sure HBO will mention something if its true.
