I dont think people on here know the sport of boxing.....
let me educate you on this....
when you hit your opponant without getting hit yourself you are boxing...
when you hit your opponant and get hit back you are brawling/fighting...
watch Pernell Whitaker for an example of boxing
watch Aturo Gatti for fighting/brawling
Boxing is the name of the game. How you go about it changes per fighter per region in which they are trained. Fighting, brawling, bobbing and weaving, whatever word or style you prefer, it is all considered Boxing.
It's beyond naive of you to think that just because you prefer a style like that of Floyd Mayweathers, you can claim it to be "true" description of the entire sport. This entire thread is based in the same level of ignorance as 99% of the Mayweather-Pacquiao oriented threads. Congratulations.
thats not the point of the thread, the point is, which most people have obviously misinterpreted is people should give respect to all types of boxers, if you think a style of boxing is boring then that doesn't give you the right to call that person a pussy because his style isnt full throtle... when pernell whitaker dodges punches, backs away and avoids onslaughts he is not being a pussy he has just perfected the underline strategy of boxing....
like i have said in a previous post Nigel Benn is my fave so please dnt missinterperet what i am saying, i love gatti my fave fighters who are active are juan manuel lopez, mayweather, mosley, david haye...... so i have a wide taste
I agree, Ive said this many times on this board. If it wasnt about points then there would be no need for a points system, they would just do it gladiator style. You dont have to hurt your opponent in order to win a boxing match.

I know. But so has Britney Spears, and Michael Bolton!
michael bolton! watdafak! that made me laugh out loud hahaha!
anyway, liking this "magical elite slick boxer club"...reading some posts here from royal boxing fans and so-called experts, I didn't realize that boxing is full of pretentious snubs as well. how funny!
Yes but people know what they're gonna get when they buy a Mayweather fight. Mayweather has been out for too long.

It can. The biggest selling recording artists can be (and usually are) boring. The biggest blockbuster movies are usually boring, utter crap, yet they make millions.

The biggest draw can't possibly be boring.

In my opinion, what I believe you are trying to imply is your individual preference. The way Gatti fight is boxing. There are several styles and each poster here has his own favorite. If you love Sweet Pea, you probably like Floyd, Guzman, then support those boxers. If you like Gatti, then you would like Katsidis and probably Pac. To each his own. The arguments would then be put in theory when style clashes but it is always up to the fighters to prove us right/wrong. Then we go up here nuthugging , praising, making excuses , etc... This is what defines boxing ... the diversity of styles under a simple set of rules ... thereby making it great and interesting.
Yes, exactly what I think.

But he said to tag your opponent, which would be the ideal of any fighter, to hit his opponent and not get hit in return.
But the way in which it was put across doesn't make sense to me! It would mean that anyone who ever gets hit is labeled a brawler and is therefore automatically excluded from the magical elite slick boxer club! Yes, the basic principal is indeed to hit and not get hit, but every boxer is gonna get hit, and no one particular style epitomizes boxing. Put two Floyd Mayweathers in the ring together. Nobody lands or takes a punch! The most boring fight in history of the sport.

Where did I say what you just said? I didnt. The thread says not taking punishment equals boxing.
Right there:
Good luck with this. Realize you are making a point against popcorn-eating, couch sitting "fans" on this board who would never dare step into a ring. Therefore the ones who disagree with you are only looking at it from a fan's perspective, having no idea what its like to actually step into a ring.
Seemed like a weird post. We're trying to define boxing. "Not taking punishment" isn't the be-all-end-all, it's just an ideal.

Punching the other guy in a the face until he can't stand up any more = Boxing.
very true
it does not matter what boxing style you use either
if you can be defensive/slick and repeatedly hit your opponent until he can not stand any more then thats boxing. or any other boxing style for that matter (counter punhing, pressure fighting, volume punching)
make not mistake about it professional boxing is about putting some hurt on your opponent
no that is fighting, boxing has nothing to do with knocking somebody out, its a sport, its about winning points
amateur boxing is about winning on points
in professional boxing you get an extra point for knocking down an opponent and amateur boxing a knockdown does not equal any extra point
a knockdown in amateur boxing equals as much points as a weak scoring jab
green k. :boxing:

obviously u havnt read all my replies and posts on the thread
You wouldnt consider the fight a boxing match thoe. Right? It doesnt meet your criteria. Oh and it happens to be one of the top fights of the year because this is what people love about boxing. I understand where your coming from and i apreciate ppl that "box" gr8 but these hate threads have to stop.
Why must a fan step into the ring to understand and appreciate the sport?
It's like saying you have to drive a Formula 1 car at 250 mph to appreciate a race.
hahahaah
OWNED him there big time!
Yeh but common Samurai said it best... To many ppl like you just post Hate Threads because you read alot of dumb comments on this site and you have no one to talk to it about.
