I want an answer from a knowledgeable poster who is a fan of boxing. I mean what fights or what indicates he is a shot fighter? The Floyd fight was competitive until the 8 or 9th round. With Pacquiao he was caught with a shot that would take anyone one out if they got hit flush like that.
I'm just bringing this up because I don't see how losing to the two greatest fighters from the generation makes you shot. Hall of famers like Bird, Dexler, Payton etc have all been dominated by Jordan but that doesn't make them less of a player (as far as b-ball is concerned).
In similar fashion, why is boxing the only sport that if a top athlete gets dominated, or even embarrassed, the sport tries to say they are finished or done? I heard Floyd say this 8-9 years ago, "My job is harder that Kobe's because Kobe is allowed to have an off day. If I have an off day, then people will say my career is over and done."
My question is why is that. Why does boxing put our stars in such a box. IMO this attitude hurts boxing more than anything.
you don't get it, Hatton is a warrior, doubts etc don't come into it like they might for some other fighters. From the moment he enters the ring, he goes to kill or be killed, even when Pac was beating him Hatton didn't hold back, he kept going after him again and again. He could've ran, but he didn't, why? because he still believed he could win, warrior to the death.
He is a warrior but not he smartest guy around lol

He's not shot he is just a B/B+ fighter who got KO'd by two great fighters and thats it. Hatton is a good fighter but he lost to the wrong guy. Once you lose to Floyd the haters will come full speed to tear that win to pieces and the guy who lost will be the one to take the worst of it. I know hatton is a good fighter because he made Malignaggi( a B- type fighter) look like a C- fighter and he blew up Kostya tsyzu.
He was shot after the Mayweather fight. You could see he did not look as impressive anymore after that fight. He slowed down a bit and his punches just didn't seem as crisp.
His style is based entirely on his punch resistance.
Which isn't there anymore, thus making him shot.
Cosign..
E.g. the Tszyu (spellcheck?) fight - Hatton walked through everything and battered Tszyu. The Margarito/Cotto fight reminded me of it. Hatton needs a good chin so that he can take several punches in order to get on the inside of his opponents and pound them with left hooks, uppercuts and body punches. He is pretty short with a short reach so needs to get on the inside.
He can't take a punch anymore so his style won't work. He's not shot, he can still beat featherfisted opponents e.g. Malignaggi, and even Diaz. But anybody with good power would stop him or floor him and possibly take a decision - e.g. Khan.

Theres only oneeeee Ricky Hatton!
Oneeee Ricky Hatton!
stumblin around....getting knocked down...
living in a Hatton wonderland!
2 Losses by vicious knockouts.
You want to belive those KOs meant nothing but after getting KTFO like that twice at his age, his careers is pretty much done.
Boxing is a mental game, if your mind set isnt right you cant compete at a high level, so you honestly belive after being KOd like that, his mind is in the right place?

Yes we know Hatton can be beat now. But if he wants to continue fighting its just a case of what he wants and who he wants.
All boxers are fighting the reality of are they as good as they was everyday of their careers? Or are they as good as they can get now?
So Hattons not as good as he was its quite possible. But he can still beat people. He may not be the best in the world, but he can still beat some people. Paul Malignaggi he would beat again if he want.s
i think its pretty safe to assume that he'd still beat paulie. i really dont kno if ricky can still drop down to 140 without it taking too much outta him tho ...
in reality we could even go back to the collazo fight to see the real beginning of the end ... but hindsight is 20/20 u kno

the manny fight wasn't a case of one clean shot and that was that.he was down twice in the first round and there was no way back for him.hatton cuts too easily aswell.......
i would like to see him fight again, but his biggest mistake was leaving his trainer graham.
wull
I think his balance is looking a bit suspect and he cant seem to take a shot anymore. Mayweather, Pacquaio knocked him out and Juan Lazcano an average puncher also hurt him.
You know how they say a knockout can take something away from a fighter physically to where by they are never the same( Don Curry, Vargas)
I think thats happened to Hatton after getting knocked out by Mayweather.
He's been overrated from the beginning and the Mayweather fight just showed he truly was a C class fighter. Pacquiao beat him even worse, look how hesistant and cautious Hatton is at choosing opponents now lol. Except he thinks he has a chance against Marquez or washed up Oscar.

I believe him being shot is not completly physical, but thee are some elements of that. Obviously with the Mayweather and Pac KO's, he has obvious chin issues. In addition I think with his age, his lifestyle has caught up to him. He often balloons to 170-175 in between fights due to his affinity for drinking and eating, and lack discipline. When he tries to make weight it will sap his endurance and energy, I think that is what happened in the Pac fight.
Most importantly though, he is shot mentally. What made Ricky Hatton great was not only his suffocating style, but his confidence that maybe he actully was the best fighter in the world. When he lost to Floyd, alot of that confidence and mental toughness was lost. Then getting blown out by Pac...he gained about 40 pounds and looks undisciplined and unmotivated.
