I looked up what the ballroom at this casino in Palm Springs/Rancho Mirage can hold up to . it's not even 2.000 people!
IMO this tells you one thing: Shaw could have sold this fight to the Nokia Centre in LA for considerably less money paid by the venue but would have had a packed house of about 5.000 people which, in the end, would have given him the same kinda money like the casino he selected - problem would have been that most people in the crowd would have been Abraham-supporters...
Well, Dirrell isn't a big star here, and Abraham has yet to make that many waves in the States.
Thats why they can't land a bigger venue. Promoters fear that tickets won't sell and they will take a loss
If Dirrell wanted more money he should have just fought Abraham in Germany. Abraham has a good following over there
Flint is one of the nastiest shitholes on the face of the Earth.
I'd love to see it there though as it would only be a 45 minute drive.
You can't be serious saying that.
Why don't they fight in Flint (Direll's hometown)?

Whaaaaat they're having this fight in Palm Springs... I'm going for damn sure... And to the TS you gotta take in consideration that Dirrell and Abrham are only known by hardcore boxing fans in America know one has even come close to hearing about either of the two... If Abrham was fighting Ward in California then it'd be a different story
I agree with what you said in regards to the capacity and the possibility of holding it at Club Nokia.
However, at the same time, Dirrell is only known by the hardcore boxing fans and isn't a draw by any means.
Shaw has vic darchinyan fighting there in 2 weeks, the area(casinos/resorts) in general is very popular with the large armenian population in los angeles and hes banking on that and the vic fight for exposure. I don't think the problem in nokia would be the pro-Abraham, because Shaw knows that AA that close to LA is going to have "home field" regardless.
Though it's still too small for my liking and the proportions of this tourney...
