Hopkins looked like shit vs. Calzaghe for a reason........
SOUTHPAW
SPEED
STAMINA
PUNCHES NON STOP
DIFFRENT ANGLES
GREAT CHIN
Hopkins loses every round vs. Williams.
He would beat Hopkins at 170?
I definetly fancy Paul Williams in this fight.
Williams speed, work rate and punch output would get a decision IMO. Hopkins couldn't knock out a natural MIDDLEWEIGHT BUM last week so he aint knocking out Williams. Hopkins achilees heel is fast guys. (i.e Taylor,Calzaghe)
This fight is not a bravery move on Paul's part in my view. It's a stupid move. Just like JMM fighting Floyd and fucking up his legacy because he didn't have the motivation to keep taking on all comers in his own division and because he got money hungry.
This is a fight that i thinks Hopkins might like, and look for. Williams would pressure Hopkins, and try to keep the fight at a high pace. However Hopkins loves fighters that comes to him, so he can counter his opponents punches. And based on the last couple of fights Williams doesnt look to hard to hit either. And lets not forget that Williams last fight last week, was a really war. You cant keep fighting for to long fights like that.
Hopkins would try to work the first couple of rounds against Williams body, to slow him down a bit and then start to connect more and more as the fight progress, both against the body and the head. And use his size and strenght to wear Williams down a bit. I dont think Williams perhaps understand that Hopkins can, when he sits down on his punches throw some hard shots.
Hopkins may not have scores so many knockouts lately, but he has been fighting more on defense then offense. But i think against Williams that Hopkins would try to fight more on the offense then in the last couple of years. Simply because i dont think he fearS Williams punching power and because Williams is not to hard to hit.
If the fight should happen next year, i take Hopkins on late round KO, or perhaps on points, in a fight where Williams would get really dominanted down the stretch.
hopkins is also two devisions bigger than paul...he would rough williams up and counter him all day and likely knock him out..he looked close to being knocked out by martinez who is a natural 154 pounder..whats a world class 175 pounder going to do to him?
Whens the last time old ass Hopkins KO anyone? Oscar 6 years ago? Please
Martinez probably hits harder than Hops at this point. He couldnt even stop a tomato can his last fight where he looked slow and sluggest. Williams will out work him
A 45 year old Hopkins isnt beating Williams. He couldnt even beat Taylor.
Hops will be too busy trying to dodge punches. And 1 or 2 clean counters wont be enough after being out worked 2:30 seconds of every round.. Martinez is much faster than Hops and is a southpaw. Wow you people are idiotshopkins is also two devisions bigger than paul...he would rough williams up and counter him all day and likely knock him out..he looked close to being knocked out by martinez who is a natural 154 pounder..whats a world class 175 pounder going to do to him?

Hopkins is slow as hell. PWill would out work the old man. I dont care what weight its at. Hopkins will be dead tired in the late rounds.
Hopkins is far from slow even at his age and hits harder than Martinez does at 160.
Williams isn't even that fast either.
It would be a really dumb move by Dan Goosen. And hopkins would probably take the fight too if roy jones doesn't happen.
Looking at it from Paul's point of view, I really don't see the appeal in this fight. What would it prove beating 45 year old hopkins? Does it add much to his legacy? Does it create any future fights for him? The risk factor is great - he loses and it's a huge setback (see Kelly Pavlik as an example as what can happen when you lose to a man that old).
If I were Williams, I would either rematch Martinez or go after one of the other top guys at 154. Or maybe wait for pavlik, although he's been down that road before.
Yeah, it just doesn't seem to make sense for Paul to take the route of challenging Hopkins. I agree with the blueprint you laid out for him.
Martinez rematch at 154....then maybe look at Hopkins after that. B Hop would bring the rough tactics that could shake P Will up so that could be a good match-up.
Avoiding the question about the rematch with Martinez and instead wants B-Hop next. What do you guys think?
as a fan of williams, the only acceptable fight for him next, is martinez again....
Hopkins would pick him apart and possibly stop him.
The fight would be at 170 if it did happen.
I agree, the fight would definitely have to take place at 170 and not a pound below.
