Before you guys go and say I'm contradicting myself. I asked myself if Paul would have been as sloppy as he was tonight against Kelly Pavlik, and frankly, I don't think so. Now that I think about further, Williams probably knew Martinez wasn't a power puncher and decided to walk in on him with more recklessness that usually. Combined with the fact that Martinez was saying he was going to knock Williams out, and I think Paul kind of thought he was just going to walk down, over power, and wear down Martinez. Against some one like Pavlik, I don't think Paul would have followed that route and been that sloppy and would have been more cautious and more respectful of the oppositions power. Like everyone knows, styles make fights. And the style that Paul fought Martinez with tonight I don't think would have done him well against the likes of Pavlik. However, any other style they try to implore would have, and hope to produce against Pavlik in the future does them well, as I only think it could lead to Williams sloppiness being his downfall, and somehow, I just don't envision them imploring that strategy against the likes of Kelly Pavlik.
Kelly Pavlik can only hope Paul Williams implores the same strategy and technique he used against Martinez in a fight with him, if the two ever met in the ring.
Paul Williams, fights the way he fights, and as such, if Martinez can hurt PW, Pavlik will lay him out.
He'll have to implore another strategy and better technique against Pavlik, or his chin will be seriously dented. I just don't think he would have been that wide open and sloppy all night against the power punching Pavlik.
I think some people forget that they both took the fight on short notice. Hell, Paul was training since JULY for a right handed Pavlik, then had to fight a southpaw Sergio on like 4 weeks (?) preparation?
I just don't think, Williams comes into a Kelly Pavlik fight with a sloppy defense, face first strategy like the one he imposed on Martinez. If so, it could play into his downfall.
Williams and Martinez would of beaten Pavlik tonight.
Martinez would give Pavlik problems but couldnt afford to get tired then he would be in some trouble.
Williams would be hit by Pavlik many times and could he take the punishment? He needs to work on not getting hit.
Paul always fights one way. He should stick to what has been working for him. I dont think ge could pull off a pure boxing performance or should try vs Pavlk since Pavlik is a high workrate fighter.
