Sure I've heard of campaign periods. I have also heard of legislative sessions where the elected official, in order to do a good job, is required to participate in the discussions, presentations, etc.
How will Pacquiao do that for 3-4 months while training for (what they have said is) the toughest fight of his career?
I would seem to me to be LESS challenging to take the March fight, be home by March 18th as a winner and huge national hero, campaign for Seven weeks (everybody knows him already) and win the election on May 10.
How is my scenario not better?
A new, inexperienced elected official not in chambers for 3-4 months? That seems untenable.
he has a strong political opponent in saranggani, its a political dynasty, the wifes the governor of the province while the husband is the incumbent congressman. Mannys consolidating his Political Party (PCP) for the may election he cannot just leave them, especially during these times. his party is fielding candidates for mayors and vice mayors of the different municipalities. A leader cannot abandon his followers especially prior and during
election.
Congressional term begins on 30 June (3 year term). Pac, presuming he wins, will be one of 200+ congressmen. He could continue boxing even in office, similar things have been done before. If he fights while holding office, the lower house may just move sessions to the fight venue and legislate from there, considering so many of them make the trip anyway to watch his fights now, LOL.
On a side note, it may be hard for someone to explain the dynamics of Philippine politics to someone who has not actually experienced it, just know that seeking district congressional office is usually a very long and complex undertaking, more so for a political neophyte like Pac who is challenging an experienced, entrenched and financially capable opponent.
"and in the blue corner..........from General Santos City, he is the pride of the Philippines, ...........Congressman Manny 'Pacman' Paaaaaaaaaaaaacquiao"
Duh Idiot, thats why I asked When does he take Office? I dont know how shit works over there and what the waiting time is.
in July.
So, he can take 3 months to train AS a congressman, but not two months to train BEFORE he is a congressman?
That seems counterintuitive.
have you ever heard of campaign periods before an election? you cannot win filing for certificate of candidacy and go home and sit in your living room and wait for the result while watching the world go round. you have to go out and meet people, campaign for x's sakes, so that people will vote for you.
No, idiot. You don't take office right away after winning an election. He might have until 2011 to do his thing.
Duh Idiot, thats why I asked When does he take Office? I dont know how shit works over there and what the waiting time is.
It'll be like Roy Jones fighting a part-time boxer, full-time cop.
If Floyd gets his '0' taken away by a part-time boxer and a Congressman, then that's really sad :(
