Yeah, that shot caught him right behind the ear. I'm surprised he was able to get up in the first place.
Please, Roy, just retire; it's ridiculous having to see you get beat up this way. There isn't any need for a "farewell" fight or anything... just retire now.
The people who like you will say that you were washed-up after having to lose weight for the 1st Tarver fight and not even remember these past few years, and the people that hate you will say that you were always overrated and never fought anybody. Nothing you can do from this point on will ever change any of that, so please just hang 'em up right now.
People use that as a crutch for bullshit calls. Throwing back is the worst possible decision when you are buzzed against a guy that can crack and is throwing punches.
Roy was taking care of himself. He wasn't getting hit clean, and he should have been given the opportunity to last out the round.
Danny Green wouldn't have been able to continue that level of attack for long, and such an energy expenditure would have severely compromised his ability to sustain keep in the fight against Roy, who had already shown in the brief fight his ability to control Green with jabs and feints.
I know what you mean Shawn but Roy was damaged after that shot. His legs were gone completley, though he still covered up pretty well. I really, really don't think Roy would have got back into the fight had he made it to round 2.
He made the mistake in his stance in the first round and that cost him the control over Danny Green.
But we'll never know anyway
hmm..
My heart was for Roy, but my brain was nagging about Green, so I'm not altogether surprised.
Green must be given some credit here.. he fought a good fight. He saw that Roy had no defense to speak of in the Lacy fight if he wasn't tying up and capitalized with one big shot to change the tide, shellshocking Roy. Set it up with 4 jabs to Roy's Gloves, one Jab to roy's chest, and then the right hand.
After that, it was over. Green should be given credit for finishing his man before he recovered too.
Good stoppage...and no... the right didn't hit his shoulder.. It hit his left ear area
But like I said, Green should be given some credit..for doing what Lacy could not.
that punch was not on the chin....but on the side of the head/neck....kinda like where Glen Johnson's shot landed.....
damn Roy....:purity:
That's what I was thinking, same spot. This time with the first shot landed there. I hope he doesn't come back after this. A bunch of us stayed up till 3AM to watch this fight then this happened. lol
It's bad seeing fighters going out like that especially Roy Jones jr even Ricky Hatton , Dela Hoya as well .Looks like a shade of his old self .Not a good way to remember a great fighter .
Horrible to see this happen to be fair, I mean much respect to Green... he won a fight against a big name. But its horrible to see this happening to a ring legend.
Thank you. Karma coming.
Roy wasn't fighting back. It was a good stoppage.

looked like a glancing shot off the side/back of the head. A little bit of bad luck combined with being an absolutely shot fighter = humiliation @ the hands of Danny Green
no muthafukkin defense now that his reflexes aren't at their peak anymore.
rjj needed a complete overhaul of his style, but he just went back to what he used to do.
rjj should've retired after the ruiz fight.
As soon as I knew this fight was made, I knew Roy was going to be in tough.
I said it way back that Green can bring the heat and Roy's legs are simply not there.
I am not surprised in the least.
well at least it wasn't as devastating as the other two knockouts...
other note: "when you defeat a legend you become a legend"... really?? Like Leon Spinks right?!?
:nonono:
WTF?! Roy got hit in the shoulder and he got knocked down?! And why can he still afford to let his left down?! He ain't 'flash' anymore for ****s sake!
Wow... those Aussie commentators sure have delusions of grandeur about Green. :ugh:
"Danny Green conquers Australia and the World!!!" :lol1: They need to get a clue.
