Super 6 is a fantastic idea and I hope it kicks off in other divisions, but it really hit me last night after the Ward/Kessler fight.
Now I'm sure it was brought up when Super 6 was announced, why is Lucian Bute (IBF) and Robert Stieglitz (WBO) not taking part, whilst Carl Froch (WBC) and Mikkel Kessler (WBA Super) were taking part?
It was disputed that Jermaine Taylor was required as he was a "named" "marquee" fighter/boxer, and then again what has Abraham done at Super Middleweight to get a chance? Don't get me wrong I like Abraham and think he will win a strap at 168 in the next few years.
Now to my point:
just recently the WBA promoted Kessler to Super Champion, and whilst Kessler lost his title last night, earlier in the evening a former Kessler victim, Dimitri Sartison (KO 12th), won the WBA Regular/World title (or whatever its bloody called) so what do the WBA do now? Keep Ward as the Super Champion and let him defend it against Taylor? What has Taylor done to deserve a crack at the title? 3 KO's in his last 4 fights is not what I call championship form.
Kessler now has the chance to win the WBC version from Froch, does he deserve to take Froch's title after last night? Of course not, you go back down the line and work your way back up to get a shot.
Kessler doesn't deserve a shot over Adonis Stevenson, then you have the top 5 ranked WBC contenders 1, Andre Ward 2, Arthur Abraham 3, Andre Dirrell 4, Allan Green 5, Jermaine Taylor - Kessler isn't even ranked in the top 15.
the WBA website is shockingly bad for updates, but either way I feel that all 4 super middleweight champions should be taking part, and should have been made to give up their titles, and the winner of the Super 6 took all 4 belts then forced to defend them against the interim champs of each body
I feel the winner of Super 6 will not, imo, be classed as the best Super Middleweight in the World, to me the person who unifies the division is numero uno.
We won't see a unified division for the best part of 4 years, if we are lucky, and of course once boxing politics gets involved it could be longer.
**** the belts. the super six winner is the champ. no more bullshit vacant belts or catchweights or champion 1a just one ****ing wba champ or one wbc champ. showtime is doing good with this tourney and when its over the best is going to be crowned.
with Super 6 yes, but when it came to Chad Dawson v Adrian Diaconu no they didn't, they wanted him to face Tarver, not once, but twice!!

it was showtimes idea though ... and as much as they make out its this great thing for boxing, they want to make money off it first and foremost, having 3 americans is the best way to ensure this in their eyes i guess
well back to the main point - should the likes of Froch and before last night, Kessler be made to defend their titles?
I suppose, but I'm sure it would have been made a success in Europe without the Americans.
German tv companies would pay out good money to show these fights.

they have the advantage of being american, therefore i suppose showtime need them to make the tournament a success....
like it or not the truth is they need the 3 americans in it for it to be a financial success

well before Super 6 started people did question what Ward and Dirrell had done in order to take part.

apparently bute was offered a lot of money to be involved and turned it down, he had the andrade rematch in the way too
title holders arent always automatically the best fighters in the division who would you take out for steiglitz
