No losses?
He was 50-4 when he fought Floyd.....meanwhile Mosely is 46-5, Cotto was 33-1, Berto is 25-0, Clottey was 35-2.....even Bradley was undefeated......
He's a PPV draw?
Ellerbe is saying upfront that Marquez was no PPV draw.....then why fight him? According to Ellerbe...Cotto is a bigger draw, Mosely is a decent draw, Berto would gladly accept a 70/30 split,
And he's saying that Pacquiao is not a bigger international star than Floyd? I didn't know that the UK was the only country outside the US that watches boxing.....or the only country period....Asia from what I remember from my geography class...is the LARGEST CONTINENT and has the LARGEST POPULATION on earth....but not "internationally".....
It would seem that during these negotiations for a POTENTIAL Mayweather/ Pacquiao fight...alot of things that were used as excuses in the past for Team Mayweather could come back to make them look REALLY BAD....as if they needed help to do that....
Maybe he should have tuned up against a tomato-welter like Michael Jennings instead?
Or maybe Steve Forbes?
What do you suggest TS?
Would've perferred a tomato can in the WW division as a tuneup.....would have been more credible....but to make it a spectacle.....title it "Numero Uno"...and charge $44.95, which by the why I didn't support, I would have much rather Floyd faced a WW journeyman...than making a LW come up to WW and still not honor the contract.....
You just answered your own question here.
End of thread.
Touche.....
I wanted to see what Floyd Stans would be coming up with......any sane fan knew the reason Floyd fought Marquez.....and it wasn't for p4p status or WW ranking....it was bargaining power.....but some still fail to realize that it was not a level battlefield.....that's all.....
Floyd knowingly fought Marquez, as a bargaining chip.....for a future Pacquiao fight...."I beat the guy that gave you hell decisively.....I deserve more money....

I think he wanted to make a statement by coming out of retirement and thrashing someone in his tuneup fight who took pacman to the wire twice.
I have no comment on whether this statement was made or not but it seems pretty clear why he chose the opponent?
Umm, mosley called out Floyd after May-Marquez fought.
What then do you call a fight when a fighter returns to the ring after a long lay-off?
Cotto returned after a beating at the hands of Margarito against Jennings and nobody said shiet. Why not? Who was Jennings? Again nobody said a peep when Cotto fought him.
Why are some people raggin' on Floyd for fighting the #2 P4P fighter in the world after a long layoff?
Does Cotto go around saying he's the best? He's a PPV draw? He's a superstar? No...he fights, he fights, and he fights.....his fists do the talking...which is how it should be.
Apparently....some people don't understand the whole "Floyd fought the #2 p4p fighter" after a 2 yr layoff......
Marquez is a Lightweight, 135lbs., Floyd campaigns at WelterWeight, 147lbs., the contract weight was 144lbs., it was obvious that Marquez had no business above 140lbs., and FLoyd STILL did not honor the contract weight and bought himself insurance.....Marquez was in the same position as Pacquiao was against DLH.....win/win situation and biggest payday. If he lost, the arguement was "He didin't belong at that weight"....which is the huge statement from everyone......if he won...."All the more power and respect to Marquez".
Floyd knowingly fought Marquez, as a bargaining chip.....for a future Pacquiao fight...."I beat the guy that gave you hell decisively.....I deserve more money....but....our PPV didin't do better becuase I was the only one who fought". Come one....."tuneup".....only blind followers believe that.....maybe "bargaining chip" should've been the name of the fight.
yes...ALL OF THOSE are excuses..he couldnt fight jmm within that and the trilogy??
and offering him 750,000 for the rematch is a joke assuming pac was going to make more than jmm after jmm beat pacquiao the hell up for 11 rounds..
and how much did he got from cris john fight, 30,000? if that was not a joke, well JMM is still the joker, numero uno.
because cotto never claimed hes the best, that he is the cashcow, and most of all cotto respects the boxing fans by coming in to fight and entertain them. cotto is not arrogant, should i continue?..nah i dont think so, you already get what i mean, you seem to be an intelligent person
Yah, I've heard that many too many times to count.
That's merely been the opinion of the fans. The results are what counts.
Cotto could've claimed he had the biggest heart and it still wouldn't make a difference. The results are what counts.

That's just hating........so your stating that Pacquiao's excuse was out-pricing himself out of a remtach?
And what was the offer for Pacquiao? Was it so much higer that Marquez didin't want to prove that he was the better fighter who supposedly won that night? Pac didn't hang around for a re-match....Marquez went and gambled over in Indonesia.....

how is that a joke especially when he straight out ducked pacquaio and rather fight chris john for a bag of peanuts. 750,000 is good especially when pacquaio was the one who got robbed.
Umm....Mosley called out Floyd...but he would rather talk about basketball....I don't blame Marquez for taking the fight.....Marquez was in the same position Manny was in for the DLH fight....no one gave him a chance, the excuses were ready if he lost to Floyd....and it was his biggest payday......but don't say he was a "tuneup"...the man deserves more respect and credit than that....again..."Numero Uno" doesn't sound like a tuneup fight...

That's all good and well, but Marquez called him out, they agreed to accept
600k for the weight overage, and the show went on.
The Marquez camp could have easily refused to face Mayweather if they were not sure they could beat him.
Every stipulation was on the contract they signed and no one but some fans on some forums protested.

and what was pacquiao's excuse to run from marquez for 4 years again?
BUT they fought.........was there and excuse? Let's see....Morales trilogy, Barrera II, Velasquez, Larios, Solis......sound like excuses?
Marquez....instead went to Indonesia....when an re-match was offered but the money wasn't good enough for him.....which would've been before Morales II.......Pac wasn't the one with excuses....what's yours?
A blown up #2 PVP in the world. From 130-147.
I know some people can do it, but Marquez sure can't. Besides, he's a counter-puncher. May made him the aggressor. Good strategy on his part but he's the bigger man.

Exactly. What better way to come out of a near 2 year layoff than to fight the #2 P4P In The World? Not tomato can, but a live opponent.
Does somebody need to put these answers in their sig so folks remember?
Is him getting a win over the #2 p4p fighter.....who obviously had no business at WW, and again.....he made Marquez come up in weight. If Marquez was so much a tuneup as you all like to call him.....why not fight a tuneup that was in the WW division?
Does someone need to put in their sig that Floyd is a WW? Fight a WW.....if he's a JrWW...fight a JrWW......if he fought Marquez...he couldn't even get down to 140? Put that in your dam sig.....
Its called a Tune Up Fight after a 2 year layoff.
Mayweathers tuneup did pretty much the same as the toughest fight of Pacquiaos career.
$44.95 is not what you would price a "tuneup"
"Numero Uno" is not something you would title a "tuneup"
Making the #2 p4p fighter, who is a Lightweight, come up to Welterweight, knowing you have ALL advantages, and still not HONOR the contract weight is not a "tuneup".
So....all of a sudden...Marquez is seen as a "tuneup"?
