If Floyd is about money it shouldnt be about the split... it should be about.. at the end of the day, how much MONEY do you make from the fight.
50-50 with Pacman... is more than 60-40 fighting anybody else.
I really hope Floyd doesn't be too arrogant about the negotiations.
I'll say this... I FULLY expect Floyd to come out with 65/35, 60/40 in the beginning, just because that is what you do... but I hope he doesn't stick to that or no fight.
It's hard for me to see Floyd really accepting 50/50, will his ego allow someone else to make an even split with him at this stage?
floyds gonna play the "my fights with oscar and ricky made more than yours"; pacs ppl gonna play the "our last fight fukked your last numbers up". prolly both gonna start with 65-35 60-40...55-45...
ts, if these cats dont realize your point, fukk em both. fight has to happen.
You would still agree he's a significantly larger draw than Marquez though, right? This stuff is all proportional and relative to the fight also - if you contrast the promotion prior to the two fights you'll find that Pacquiao v Cotto was promoted from the perspective of two top quality boxers going head to head which makes the two men boost each other's numbers, while Mayweather v Marquez was more or less Mayweather's homecoming party so a much larger portion of the buys can be directly attributed to him personally.
Mayweather-Marquez was promoted 2 months longer than Cotto-Pac and was also on "Mexican" weekend... and they also promoted it as the opponent who went life and death with Pacquiao.
Also, for Pacquiao's numbers against Cotto to be more impressive than Floyd's against Marquez to me it'll have to go over 1.6m. Cotto is a legitimate star in his own right with a huge fanbase behind him. No disrespect intended towards Marquez but that fight was essentially billed as "Mayweather v 'opponent': The Return of Floyd"
BULLSHIT... Cottos Biggest PPV EVER was 450k.
1.6 Million is top 10 PPV all time.
Floyd's main reason for him not fighting Cotto was that "no one knows who Cotto is". But somehow, Manny was able to draw big numbers with an unknown fighter. Further more, Manny's PPV numbers keep increasing where as Floyds have gone from 2.5 to 950K to 1 Mill pretty much steadying, but not severly improving.
When it comes to this shit, its about who's hot and Manny Pacquiao is fire.
Why are people comparing a fight that was said to have been a mismatch, to one that was said to have been competitive.

For the millionth time - what Floyd says is not relevent to anything. Half of what comes out of his mouth is promotion and the other half is bullshit.

As I said in the post you quoted, it's all relative. I'd say the Marquez number are just as impressive as the De La Hoya numbers solely from Mayweather's perspective.
When it comes to this shit, its about who's hot and Manny Pacquiao is fire.
Both are on fire actually. Manny has great momentum and his star status is really snowballing at the moment but Mayweather's been at the forefront of the sport since 2005 and still demands slightly more interest than Pacquiao.
No I dont think it will happen. As much as I would love Floyd to accept a 50/50 split and to see this fight happen he wont give in without a fight. His ego is huge and he is going to push a 60/40 or 65/35 for sure. You're definitely right though, a 50-50 with pacman is still a lot of money.

The numbers are tallied solely from what is grossed in North America. I am sure Lewis vs Tyson sold many PPVs in the UK, but the official number is the 2 million buys tallied from the American market.
HBO and Sky Sports are in the same boat.
Why wouldn't you count UK PPV's?

Hell no man. How many fights have done 1.6 mill? Hatton is a bigger draw than Cotto by far, and niether could get over a million with him. Since then it seems both have become more popular. Remember to date Cottos highest PPV was 450K, carried probably by mexicans who were rooting for margarito. His second highest fight was 380K with Shane Mosley.

No offense, but nobody includes UK PPV's. The PPV numbers that are tallied here, are the numbers brought in from the US and Canada on HBO.
lol, a PPV is a PPV regardless of it being in the US, the UK or basra.

Mayweather - Hatton did well over 2 Million when you include UK PPV's.

thats not what floyd was saying in the build up, he was saying marquez has a whole country behind him!!!!

It's a matter of principal. Mayweather brings more to the table financially and as such his purse should reflect that. The fairest split would be around 55-45, 53-47 minimum, to Mayweather. I don't believe there's that a big difference between him and Manny anymore but there is still a difference.
How would you feel if another guy was getting paid more or the same as you when your contribution was more valuable than his?
how does mayweather bring more to the table? lol, he has about 3 fans.
