Sergio Martinez: I am going to win by knockout and I am sure of it. I am in the best shape of my life at the best time of my career. I am a lot faster than Paul and I don’t take as many hits as he does so that will really do well for me in this fight.
Thoughts????
Martinez is a good slick, skilled Southpaw. He has a underrated amature pedigree which included going the 1997 amature World Championships. He never took up the sport of boxing until the age of 20.
He has a impressive record of 47 fights with 44 wins. His only loss came to Antonio Margarito back in 2000. He also has two draws. He was robbed out of a victory against Kermit Cintron back in Febuary the fight was ruled a draw. But virtually all think Martinez should of won.
The competition he has mixed with, isn't great. But he does holds wins over two very capable British fighters in Richard Williams and Adrian Stone and he defeated both men in there home countires.
Another impressive win is were he totally took apart Alex Bunema who was coming of 4 straight wins which included a KO win over former World Champion Roman Karmazin.
To beat Williams is a big ask especailly at 160lb. And If he does win, I don't see it being by KO. Williams has a fine set of whiskers and Martinez isn't a feriouces hitter by any means, more a sharp puncher than anything.
Sergio will have to use his speed and angles to frustrate Williams. And make him make silly mistakes that he can capatilse on.
But Paul seems to be hitting his prime as a fighter. I see his incredible work rate, strength and size being a problem for Martinez.
Probably not, but Martinez is no joke, very slick southpaw... I honestly feel Kelly Pavlik was an easier fight stylistically.
The only thing I feel better about Williams winning is the fight is at 160lbs.
Who do you thinks takes Martinez vs Pavlik at 160?

Martinez is a very live underdog. Really dangerous opponent for Williams. Kinda reminds me of Margarito his welter title run, when he had to take on the no-name, dangerous opponents that were the very definition of high risk, low reward.
