Hey fellas check out this blog by me
http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/blog.php?b=83
honestly I have used the word bum a few times. Or should I say misused it the only fighters I consider bums are the ones who have the talents but waste it. Guys like Judah....Fighters even though they are not as skilled (Gatti, Ward) but give it their heart each and every time out there should not be called bums. It is the fact that a fighter cannot be scared or he would not get into the ring so to call them cowards is ridiculous. Honestly most fighters don't duck other fighters because they are scared of getting beat up or losing it is because it is that they took risk to get to where they are and if they can make good purses off fighting lesser competition why not? As much as I hate to see fighters who deserve shots getting pushed aside for the almighty buck you cannot dispute that most people don't like easy money right? It is the fact that the sport as a whole is suffering from the cherry picking likes in boxing today. The casual fan who has no knowledge of the sweet science but can push the little blue button on his cable remote to order PPV is screwing things up. Calling a fighter a bum is often unwarranted but I don't see too many cowards in boxing....Lefty

I train 5 days a week, boxing and working out. If I didnt, Id still have the right to say floyd is ducking legitimate threats.
You dont have to be a professional boxer to speak your mind about the sport.
Also, while we are on the subject there are plenty of people who have been in the ring hundreds of times who don't have a damn clue about the sport and make even more retarded comments than the people who never even tried.
One of the more experienced amateurs at my gym once told me "Sugar Ray Leonard was overrated, he got his ass kicked by Hector Camacho."
^^^^this guy has never i repeat never had a fight in his life...he's so tough over the internet..but ive seen his picture..he's a ugly lil 120 pound bitch..he's never talk that shit in person
larry, shut the **** up.. your posts have no value here.. the only ppl who value your opinion are the mayweather lovers.. please skidattle. thanks
I have been boxing for 5 years, but whether your a boxer or not doesnt mean you cant criticize the fighters. Its just like every other sport as a fan you can praise or criticize the professionals. Its not exactly fair but we are the ones who give them a job.
I agree, to a certain extent criticism should be expected and embraced by a fighter.
For example, I recently trashed David Haye over his performance against Valuev saying it is laughable that the guy averaged 12 punches per round for a 12 round fight.
I look at it like this, If I went into my gym and had a 6 round sparring session and proceeded to run all over the ring without throwing punches for a full 18 minutes everyone in the gym would laugh at me, my trainer would bitch me out, people would probably be booing from ringside and the guy I was sparring would probably never bother sharing the ring with me again. If that kind of fighting isn't acceptable for mere novices who aren't getting paid then there is no way it should be allowed to be passed off as World Championship quality boxing.
Hahahaha, what a retarded argument. I don't have to play in a band to know Bon Jovi suck, I don't have to work in McDonalds to know their staff are incompetent and I don't have to lace up some gloves to know Enzo Maccarinelli is a ****ing bum
One thing I think is interesting that I wanted to point out in this thread......
The gym I go to has aout 30 guys who train there on a week to week basis. Out of those 30 I would say that only about 5 of them are huge fans of the sport, watch all the fights, and have a million opinions like the people around here.
I almost never talk boxing with the guys at my gym because most are completely ignorant about the sport, ie "Do you think Mayweather will fight Hopkins next?"
Most of them are just tough kids who like to fight. Most aren't real athletes in the sense that they chose boxing because they didn't have the natural abilities to excel in football, basketball, baseball and chose something where hard work and toughness would level the field.

You're right man. I never call fighters "bums", it's just too disrespectful.

I've been boxing for 3.5 years now. I remember when i didn't go to the gym. It was easy to yell at the TV and say WHY THE F*** DIDN*T YOU GET AWAY FROM THAT SHOT YOU STUPID MORON!!!. When i joined a gym and felt what it is like to step into a ring and fight someone, you just get a whole new level of respect to the guys that fight. That's why i never diss a fighter, you can't call anyone a pussy who was stepped through those ropes to take on another man who wants to destroy you.
I just recall that when I stepped into a ring for the first time it was amazing how quickly I disregarded everything I had been training to do. You visualize yourself kicking the shit out of your opponents then you get in the ring and think "ummmmm, so when should I jab again?" LOL. It was like learning to walk all over again.
It gave me a new respect for the mental aspect of the sport and understanding of how important it is to be calm and focused in the ring for the entire 3 minutes.

Exactly what I went through. I haven't trained in a couple years, but even if you don't train to fight professionally it's one hell of a workout.

Been there done that...
I actually have a gym and sparring session scheduled for later today.
The vast majority of posters in here couldn't shadow box 3 fulls rounds without stopping much less get in there and fight someone.
If they did make that mistake 95% would quit like Zelenoff the very first time they got hit by a good punch.
I practiced Boxing and Jeet Kune Do for several years. Jeet Kune Do actually teaches a lot of Western Boxing techniques (i.e. slipping jabs, accuracy, using speed bag, fight from both stances, etc).
But yea, there's a lot of people here who probably wouldn't last 45 seconds in the ring yet call fighters quitters LOL.
Funny story (Ravishing can co-sign on this one for me). One of our friends who worked out a lot and was in shape thought he could climb in the ring and spar with me for 3 rounds (this was in 2002). I'm 5'7, 155 and he's 5'10 180. We meet up and I'm doing warm ups and he's just sitting there waiting. We did about a min and a half of sparring and he was already saying, "Ok man, Ok man!!" LOL he found out 1st hand how tough Boxing and all contact sports really are as far as preparation. Thats why I respect all fighters and am such a fan of both Boxing and MMA. Such a rigorous way of living if you're a Pro.
