What is Cotto's Race?

I read that 80% of PRs describe themselves as white, racially. Cotto (whom I'm a big fan of) while not dark skinned, definetly does not appear "white" or at least by mainland standards. I mean our president is half white and half black, but he's is viewed as black. Just was wondering what Cotto is or is precieved as racially, and before some of you think this is a racist bait thread...it's not...I'm ignorant of the latin culture's perception of race and would like to know what the PRs here on BS think. :boxing:

He is a mix of spaniard, african and Indio taino. As far as Puerto rican population racial configuration, it is no different than any other descendants of the African diaspora. Different percentages, yet primarily the same. If England conquered Puerto rico, the one drop rule would apply. Hell, when I look at Cotto's youngest son and his daughter it is clear day. If I were to walk down the street with them, it wouldn't be a stretch for them to be confused a being my children to a stranger.

i'm in the usa and i have never thought of cotto as black. neither have any of the people i know that are into boxing. What do you think he is in terms of race and don't say latino.

idiots...he said what race he is not what ethnic group he belongs tos..obviously he's hispanic and puerto rican...but from the looks of it, looks like he has indiginous blood...probably Taino indian and spanish...with some African ancestry thrown int there.... LOL @ you calling people "idiots", yet you can't even spell or read clearly. Ethnic group can pertain to race or nationality. Obviously he knows Cotto is Hispanic and from PR. He is asking about Cotto roots, which thankfully you at least know.

In the USA Cotto would be considered Black, plain and simple. However he certainly fights hispanic, take that as a diss or compliment if u want. i'm in the usa and i have never thought of cotto as black. neither have any of the people i know that are into boxing.

Of course Melanesians are natives of the South Pacific and have been there for 40,000 years I read that, but I a mean ethnicity like Black, White, Hispanic, or Asian. I got them confused with Aborigines.

I am pretty sure it all traces back to Africa, far back. Just saying... But this Puerto Rico we are talking about. And would Melanisians or Jews even be considered a separate ethnicity? Of course Melanesians are natives of the South Pacific and have been there for 40,000 years
